“I could get someone to go grab your clothes in the morning from your house,” I offered, reminding myself to send off a text to Ezra or Hilda. “I don’t have any pants that would fit you,” I explained apologetically. She was too short for anything other than a t-shirt of mine.

“This will have to do; it’s long enough to cover you down to your knees.” I added.

Rose sat down on the bed and held her head.

“The room is spinning,” she grunted.

She looked like she felt like shit.

“Why do people get drunk?” she moaned into her hands.

I chuckled. “You’re going to feel it even more in the morning.”

Suddenly, she was running back into the bathroom and puking again.

I gave an exasperated sigh. It was going to be a long night. And I couldn’t leave her alone to endure it all by herself.

Chapter 16

"Nobody has ever measured, not even poets, how much the heart can hold." – Zelda Fitzgerald

Rose’s POV

I woke up in the morning to a splitting headache. Throwing back the comforter so cool air hit my bare legs, I couldn’t stop the flashes from last night running through my mind: rubbing sexually against Aiden on the dance floor, throwing up on the sidewalk, Aiden sitting with me in this room after I’d changed. He told me he needed to make sure I didn’t throw up while passing out. Immediately, my eyes went to the other side of the bed where Aiden, wearing sweatpants and a t-shirt, was leaning against the headboard in a sitting position, eyes closed. It lookedlike he’d fallen asleep sitting up. A fleeting memory danced across my mind, almost like a dream, of his fingers pushing the hair back from my face as I lay back in bed, soft hands skimming my cheeks before quickly retreating.

And then another realization came crashing down with stark clarity: he’d taken care of me the entire night. I’d been drunk, and he’d done the one thing he hated doing.

Flashback

“That really is the worst thing.”

“What? Caring about someone?”

“Babysitting a girl that clearly can’t handle her alcohol. I feel bad for her boyfriend.”

End Flashback

I let out a small squeak when Aiden cracked his eyes open. His eyes flitted to my legs before going back up to my face.

“I’m so sorry,” I spoke, hands up in defense. “I…”

I had never meant for him to end up being my nurse for the night. He must be so angry because of me.

“What time is it?” Aiden yawned, stretching the kinks out of his muscles.

“Almost ten,” I squeaked out, checking the time on my cell phone which was on the white deco painted nightstand. I had a million notifications, but my head was still swimming.

“Hilda said she’d bring your clothes over around this time,” Aiden motioned towards the bathroom. “You can shower and change into them when she does.”

He got up to leave.

“You…you stayed with me all night?” I asked quietly.

Aiden shrugged.

“Someone had to.”

With that parting remark, he was out the door.
