“I told you, babe,” he said in a smug voice, locks of hair falling into his eyes.

He gave my fingers a loving squeeze.

I was oddly quiet the entire ride home while Aiden babbled on about how I had to make sure I took the vitamins prescribed for me.

And when we reached the house, I finally said it.

“Are you disappointed?”

“Dis…disappointed? In what?” Aiden’s brows were furrowed, looking at me like I was talking in a foreign language

“In me?” I asked quietly, looking at the floor as glossy curls curtained the side of my face.

“Look, most of the time I can easily guess what’s bothering you. I can pick it up from your body language and facial expressions. But there are rare times when I fail and right now, I’m not understanding what’s wrong.” Aiden explained, hands up in defeat with a sigh.

I didn't give him any reply and kept on looking away in a stern mood.

“Is this about your memories again?” Aiden clicked the words out testily. He was trying to figure out what could be the reason for me acting the way I was right now. “I told you before, it doesn’t bother me—”

“Because the baby isn’t a boy.” I rushed the words out, interrupting Aiden. “I know alphas want boys to take over the pack." I couldn't help but recall Lexia's story. "That's why Alistair hated Lexia, isn’t it? She told me he was always disappointed in her because she wasn't a boy.”

Aiden took a step towards me. His face was serious. “You must not know me at all if you’re comparing me to that piece of shit,” Aiden bit out.

“I’m not comparing you,” Idefended. Of course I'd never expect a reaction as drastic as Alistair's, but still I had to know his true feelings. “I’m just telling you I know you really wanted a boy and I’m asking if you’re sad about it being a girl. You won’t have an alpha son.”

“I never said I wanted a boy, did I?” Aiden asked calmly, taking a deep breath. He was upset, but trying to hide it.

“But most alphas do,” I pressed.

“I'm not most alphas,” Aiden snapped. He took in a deep breath again, then ran both his hands over his face.“Listen, Rose, I’m just happy that we’re having a healthy child. I’m happy that you’re having my child. It doesn’t matter to me if it’s a boy or a girl. I don’t care if we only ever have girls. I’ll love them all,” Aiden pressed, stepping into my space. The back of his fingers came to graze my cheek lovingly. “And this baby…she wasn’t conceived while you were in heat. She was definitely not planned. But she happened. Because we love each other. She’s a product of our love for each other. And I could never be disappointed in that.” Aiden swooped down, kissing my cheek briefly. His hand went to rub my stomach possessively. “My daughter.” He said the words reverently, glancing at my stomachbefore looking me straight in the eye. “I hope she’s like her mother.”

Aiden almost fell back with the force that I used to propel myself upwards and into his arms as I hugged him desperately. What had I done to get someone like Aiden for a mate? He was my gift from the moon goddess.I'd been so worried that Aiden might be having gender disappointment. But he wasn't. And his emotional speech went a long way in making those annoying tears drip down my cheeks. But Aiden was there, wiping away my tears, kissing them away with his lips as we held each other.

Chapter 65

“Take my hand, take my whole life too. For I can’t help falling in love with you.” – Elvis Presley

Aiden's POV

The next day, I woke up to an amazingly melodic voice singing happy birthday in my ear. Strange, it was definitely not my birthday. She was two months too late for that considering it was March now. Curls tickled my bare arm as Rose kept singing. I breathed deeply. She smelled even better than usual as she pressed herself against me, the blanket separating our bodies. I felt myself becoming hard. A constant state these days. But it was worth it if I got to sleep next to Rose and hold her in my arms at night.

Then as Rose ended her random tune, my arms found their way around her torso, pulling her close to me under the blankets so I could feel her warm body next to mine. I started as my bare chest came into contact with a surprising amount of her bare skin. My eyes flew open, this was unexpected. She wasn’t wearing her nightgown in bed. My momentary surprise was enough for her to pull away slightly as Isat up. I looked down at her to see her blushing profusely right down to the swell of her breasts where the blanket, she held like a lifeline, started.

“What are you wearing?” my voice was hoarse as I zoned in on the red ribbon choker she wore.

Rose's POV

“I…apparently, I bought this a day before your birthday according to the receipt.” My voice was small, unsure.

I’d managed to squeeze into it. It was tight. But if I didn’t do it now, it might not fit later. AndI’d decided that this was something I wanted to do. For myself and for Aiden.

Aiden’s eyebrows nearly disappeared into his hairline.

“And well…we never did celebrate your birthday,” I said a little defensively and shrugged my shoulders. “Happy belated birthday?” I supplied.

Aiden tugged at the blanket. “I have to see.” I didn’t let go.

“I don’t think I’ve ever worn anything like this,” I squeaked out unsurely. “And I have stretch marks!” Iwarned as Aiden tugged again.
