Page 268 of Hekate: The Witch (Goddesses of the Underworld #1)

There are a thousand stories

about a wandering island.

Some will tell you how once

a Goddess named Leto gave birth

to twin Gods here.

How the sister who came first

helped her mother birth

her infant brother.

Some will tell you

how the herbs that grow here

are so divine that no mortal

is allowed on this island.

But only a few will tell you

of the Goddess.

The Goddess that was pursued

to the point that she

had to give up her only child.

The Goddess that when given

the choice between

servitude and cruelty

forged her own path

by becoming something else.

That is another story only a few know.

Some may tell you about

the Goddess who visits the island.

A tall, willowy woman

who holds three faces

and three bodies inside her bones.

They say that every full moon

she walks across this island’s beaches

and the wind in the trees carries

the island’s secret voice to her.

A voice that holds falling stars

and ancient prophecies inside itself.

My daughter, you have honoured me

in ways I could never even have dreamed.
