To Olympus

I had been purposeful in my actions.

When I chose that last village,

it was the closest to the godly mountains.

And now, not even a few miles

through the sleet and ice and snow,

I saw the beauty of a falling Olympus.

I had never been there,

but a golden mountain powered

by ichor was impossible not to see.

It stood out like an exquisite atrocity

among the peaceful grey of the others.

Storm clouds and lightning

surrounded the top of the mountain,

obscuring the Gods’ abode from view.

But we heard the thunder, the roars,

even from this distance,

the silhouettes of the behemoths

that were called giants visible,

legs and arms so large

that they made the mountain

look like a large oak they were climbing.

My jaw set as we kept walking.

There was no time to waste.

We must start climbing. But first…
