“Uh, you’re useless.”Seth sighed, giving him a frown. “Maybe I’ll start. I don’t know what I’m doinghere.”

Domenico looked around. The room had a theatrical quality to it, walls and ceiling covered with plasterto imitate the inside of a grotto. “We’re dining.”

“No! I mean... Where ismy life going?”

Oh. That had to be thewine starting to talk, and Dom wasn’t sure he wanted to listen. He sighed, giving Seth a long once-over. Come to think of it, Seth had drunk the largerpart of the wine bottle they’d bought.

“You are going to leadthe Villani family.” It was hard not to smile at that image. When Seth wouldtake his place as head of the organization, Domenico would have to be loyal tohim, but they would still remember how tightly Seth’s ass clenched on his cock.Domenico drifted off on that thought for a moment, before he focused back onSeth’s words.

“...and I thought I’lljust get into it, but I changed courses all the time. Couldn’t make up mymind.” Seth took another sip from his glass.

“Courses?” Dom wasconfused. He should have been paying more attention to someone whose throat hewanted to fuck.

“I did some credits ininternational politics, television history, geography, I even did a mountainclimbing thing. I thought I could be like an instructor or something.”

Oh, he was talking aboutthe university. Domenico could go with that. “What was your major again?”

“Communication studies, but there were loads of modules I could choose from. I didn’t get to finish itanyway.” Seth poured himself a generous glassful of wine.

“That’s a shame.”Domenico shook his head and bit his lip with envy. Seth was wasting theopportunities his position gave him. The spoilt prick.

“But I’m kinda thinking, you know, it wasn’t meant to be. Might as well take what life throws at me,right?”

Domenico shook his head, stuffing his mouth with a piece of potato. “You’ve got to do what you’ve got todo. I never finished high school,” he confessed. He wasn’t ashamed of it, notreally. He was pretty sure he would beat most graduates in any kind of test, but that didn’t mean he was happy about not having his skills confirmedsomehow.

“Is that why youchose... you know...?” Seth trailed off, talking about being an assassin as ifit was some part-time job. It was quite endearing.

“The opposite, actually.” He shrugged. “I didn’t finish because your father decided I wasready to do some independent work.”Or, killing.

“Like a freelancer...”Seth finished the glass, avoiding Dom's eyes and tapping his fingers againstthe table.

Domenico bit his lip andplaced his silverware on the side of his plate to signify he was finished. “No,more like working on a contract without a fixed number of hours.”

“If you could chooseanything, what would you do?”

Domenico smiled. Hecouldn’t help himself. If he had all the resources Seth had, what would he do?If he could study, which subject would it be? Something that could help himwith work, or just something he was interested in? “I would be self-employed.” That,he knew for sure.

“Oh yeah?” Seth laughed.“Would you sell vacuums? I can just see that. Charming up housewives when yougo door-to-door.”

“Are you saying you findme handsome?”

“N-no! Why do you haveto sieve out that bit! Maybe you’re handsome to cougars." Seth snorted andasked the waiter for a Bloody Mary.

Domenico used theopportunity to order a lemon tart. A big one. He made sure she understood.

“I’m not into old men.”Domenico frowned, adjusting the way he sat in the chair as they returned to theearlier conversation. “I want to do something exciting, something that wouldallow me to travel.”

“Why don’t you quit?”Seth shrugged, pushing away his unfinished pasta.

Domenico gaped at him.Was he really that clueless? “What?”

“Oh I get it, I supposeyou get to travel this way a lot...” Seth looked uncomfortable. Flushed, constantly stirring in his seat. Domenico had no idea if the future Don knewwhat he was talking about or not.

“Seth, I gave an oath. Ican’t just resign from the job. It isn’t a supermarket,” said Domenico. Sethwas handsome, but an idiot nevertheless. Big fucking baby.

“Oh.” Seth desperatelylooked out for the waiter. “Too bad, I suppose.”

Domenico’s stomachtightened with anger. “Are you fucking serious?”
