Fury
I gently lick my bottom lip as I watch Psycho shake hands with Cage, the Carnage MC’s President, who had been locked up five times before taking over from his grandfather five years ago.
They get to talking while Medic walks over to their treasurer, Knuckles, who is one hell of a cage fighter, grabbing the cash before they get into a conversation.
While me, well, I stay back, my mind going fucking everywhere.
I wasn’t supposed to come on the trip today, but I needed some time.
Years, fucking years Anna has been in Sky’s life, raising her, and none of us knew.
What the actual fuck?
I shake my head with a sigh. Seeing that photo in her drawer made my jaw drop, but looking at the ones on her desk, my heart raced because my daughter was in them until I noticed the one of Sky and Anna.
Every time she brought up her mama, I just thought it was Melissa she was talking about.
Fuck, it explains how she afforded to do a double major and how she got her office.
I need to get her to trust me again, to get her to want to know me, but to do that, she needs to give me a fucking crumb, but she isn’t.
A big part of me thinks Anna is the reason why and not because Anna wants to cause shit, more like something happened, and she wants to respect the woman she sees as a mother, a woman who has had all of us blind.
All this time, despite how he treated her, Anna has been protecting Brick while becoming the mother Sky needed and helping her gain a relationship with my daughter, which I’m not really too upset over.
She clearly did it in hopes Sky would give me a chance again, it also explains why Anna smacked me when I outed Bricks order.
I hurt her daughter.
Fuck, my head’s a mess, it’s why I wanted to come today, to have a ride.
I need her to trust me. I don’t know how to do it, and then there’s the fact I’m lying to my best friend, something he doesn’t deserve, unlike his father.
Fuck.
I shake my head and mutter, “Fuck it,” before grabbing my phone and I bring up his number.
“Fury, everything okay on the run?” Blade answers within two rings, and I clear my throat, my stomach in knots.
“Yeah, brother Psycho’s just catching up with Cage,” I reply, then clear my throat again and say, “Listen, Leo, you are my best friend, and a lot of shit has gone down, and I just, fuck…”
“Is this about Sky?” he asks quietly, and I sigh.
“It is,” I admit, “I found out something, and I just, I’m trying to earn her trust, and to do that, I have to lie to you, the club, Brick.”
“That’s why you wanted to go today, to get your head sorted,” he confirms, and I hum out a confirmation.
He’s quiet for a moment before he states, “Earn her trust, even if it means keeping us in the dark. Please do whatever you need to win her back. My dad fucked things up big time, and both you and Sky got hurt in the process, so do what you need to do, Nyx. You have my blessing.”
I look down, eyeing Skylar’s name sprawled on my tank, the same font that is on my neck, still feeling uneasy, but I think it’s because of the treatment of Anna.
“Anna isn’t being a bitch like everyone claims to Sky, she’s not keeping her from you,” I admit, “That is all I can say, and I am willing to say because the woman doesn’t deserve the shit that is being thrown at her,” I sigh, “Lie after lie all because she made one mistake while Brick has made several including telling her to get over the fact he fathered a child with a whore.”
“But you can’t tell me why she wants fuck all to do with me because you want her trust?” he asks, and I deny, “No because she never told me, but if I did, I wouldn’t have told you anyhow.”
He sighs before he states, “Okay, okay. Get her trust, brother, and I’ll back you every step of the way.”
“Thank you, brother,” I mutter before I hang up and look at the men to see them still talking. I tap my left leg as I lean back a little on my bike, my mind going in circles.
I need her to trust me, so maybe if I show her that I trust her with the most important person in my life other than her, she’ll begin to soften instead of trying to run from me.
I quickly bring up Mama’s number, a plan forming.
“Hey darling,” she answers after three rings, “do you want to speak to Tate?”
“Uh yeah, in a minute, Mama, I just uh, I need a favor, and you are not going to like it.” I answer, and she sighs.
“I’m about to lose some granddaughter time, aren’t I?” she confirms, and I snort.
The damn woman is obsessed with her granddaughter and the fact she had a week without her, and this is meant to be their time, and I’m breaking their time? Yeah, I’ll owe her big time for this.
“Well, if it helps Mama, if my plan works, you can watch her every time I want to take Sky out for a date,” I confirm, and she sucks in a breath and asks, “Are you sure?”
I smile a little, not surprised she’s figured out what I want to do, and I admit, “I need to earn her trust, Mama.”
“And what better way than proving to her that you trust her with your life….” She finishes my thought, and I nod even though she can’t see me. She states, “Okay, I’ll get Tate ready. Call Skylar so she’s not blindsided, son…”
I swallow hard and say, “She’ll be at her office until six.”
“I’ll head there now,” she confirms, then says, “You’ll win her back, baby, I promise.”
Fuck I hope she’s right.
“Tate, daddy’s on the phone,” Mama calls before I hear a squeal in delight, making me smile. My daughter's little voice comes through the phone as she says, “Daddy, daddy, guess what?!”
I chuckle, “What, sugar plum?”
“I did a handstand!” she whispers excitedly, and I grin wide, replying, “That’s great, baby,” before I say, “I need you to do me a favor, Tate. I need you to be a very good girl for me.”
She giggles, “Daddy, I’m always good for Grammie,” and I shake my head with a smile as the brothers walk over, Cage throwing me a finger salute, which I return as I say, “Not for Grammie baby, for Sky…” and the boys look at me with raised brows, but I ignore them and say, “you’re going to spend the night with her. ”
Tate screams, “Yes!” before the phone goes dead, and I laugh a little as I drop my phone from my ear.
“You’re letting Skylar have Tate for the night?” Psycho confirms, and I hum and admit, “Yeah, I just need to tell her first.”
Psycho and Medic laugh, and I shake my head as I bring up Skylar’s office number and state, “Just give me a minute to make the call, then we’ll catch up with the van.”
Both men nod, and I press the number, hoping Caitlyn doesn’t answer.
It rings four times before my girl’s sweet voice echoes in my ear as she says, “Angel’s Accountants, Skylar speaking.”
My mouth parts in shock.
“Angel’s accountants, as in Angel’s Kids?” I confirm with shock, and both men frown my way, but I shake my head at them.
Skylar sighs, “You knew I was doing a double major.”
I reply, “Yeah, I did, but I didn’t know you were going to create an amazing nonprofit that the club may want to contribute to, precious, and the name…”
“The name was to honor Mama. I wouldn’t be where I am today without her. Now, is there a reason why you’ve called?” she says, and I swallow hard.
Fuck me, this girl is amazing, and my respect for Anna has tripled.
I clear my throat and reply, “Yeah, I need you to start closing up shop,” she cuts in, “Fury, I’m not,” I don’t let her finish, and I state, “My mama is meeting you outside of your office, Tate wants to spend the night with her favorite person.”
Skylar sucks in a breath, and I say, “Other than you, that little girl is my everything, and I’m showing you, Sky, that I trust you with my everything, now go spend some time with our girl. I love you.”
I hang up before she can say anything else, and Psycho confirms, “Skylar owns Angel’s Kids?” with shock lacing his voice.
I nod and mutter, “Yeah, and it is becoming apparent there is a lot we don’t know about my girl, a lot she’s been keeping from me, the club, even managing to hide it all from Venom and his hacking.”
Shaking my head, I put my phone away and start my bike, revving it, and I state, “Not a word to anyone until she’s ready,” and they nod and I mutter, “Let’s ride, brothers,” and they follow suit, looking gobsmacked at the news.
Skylar not only opened her own accounting office but also a nonprofit which was opened four fucking years ago and has become successful, and now, I’m beginning to see Anna had a massive role in both.
Later that night, I’m in bed, my mind still wandering, when my phone beeps, and I sigh, reaching over for it.
A picture of Sky and me grinning at the camera during a movie night sits on the nightstand, and I eye it for a moment before grabbing my device and waking it up. The picture of Skylar and Tate when she was a baby comes into view.
Tate had just had her vaccines, and I couldn’t calm her, so Sky took her from my arms without a word and settled her instantly.
I couldn’t help myself in taking the picture.
Sighing, I pull up my messages, but suck in a breath seeing a message from Sky, something she hasn’t done since I ended things. I quickly open the thread I refused to delete to see the new message.
My heart melts as a picture of her and Tate both grinning at the camera in their matching pajamas, the caption stating, ‘Night, Daddy!’ catching my attention.
Fuck me.
I quickly type out a message back.
Me: Night, my girls, I love you both more than life itself. Xxx
I press send instantly before setting that picture as my screen saver, not wanting to change my home screen, then put my phone back on the charger, knowing she won’t message back, but that’s okay.
This is progress, and my plan to make her a co-parent is slowly coming together before I get her to sign adoption papers.
Tate will get the woman she sees as her mother, just as Sky did with Anna, and I will get my girl back.
Mark my fucking words, she’ll be mine again and soon.
