Skylar

I grin wide as a content Tate gently brushes her doll's brown hair, looking cute in her pink coveralls that I know Mama bought her.

My heart is full and happy that she’s here like it always is when she’s around, while a little bit of sorrow swims deep inside me, knowing another child should be sitting here right now playing with their big sister but isn’t.

My baby would have been four today…

It’s why Mama showed up with my favorite food and spent the day with me. She wanted to make sure I was okay, and the fact that Tate’s now here, brightens my day more so, even if her father is sitting here as well.

I’m not sure what possessed him to bring her to me, usually it’s either Ivy or Mama, his mama only recently but I won’t be complaining because seeing Tate, it’s my highlight.

“Sky-Sky,” Tate whispers, and I lean forward as she gestures me towards her while she side-eyes her daddy, who is leaning back against the chair, his eyes closed, looking way too hot it’s unfair.

His muscles on show through his stretched white shirt caused by his arms crossed over his chest. Ugh… She whispers, “Can I have a sweetie?”

I chuckle and nod, and she squeals before stumbling up. I quickly grab her hips before she trips over her own two feet, steadying her before she rushes over to my desk, causing Fury to look my way with a raised brow.

I ignore him and my traitorous heart that flickers at the way he’s looking at me and watch as Tate goes into my top drawer, the one that I hold a photo of myself and Fury inside from years ago, and takes out a chocolate bar before rushing my way.

I smile when she hands it to me to open while Fury pipes up, “Hey, where’s mine?”

I roll my eyes and hand Tate the chocolate, and state, “They are for Tate only,” making him narrow his eyes while the sweet little girl giggles, most likely liking being treated like royalty.

Fury raises a brow and states, “Fine, I’ll get one myself then,” and I shake my head and pay attention to Tate, not believing he’ll get up.

He’s probably just saying it to gain my attention, heck, the most words I’ve said to him since finding out the truth was when he allowed Lacey, or well, a new prospect to watch Tate who in turn ended up being Lacey and the little sweetie pie ended up banging her head.

I lost it with him, it was the day Hudson finally had his breathing tube removed.

I hear a rustle and look in time to see Fury stand, and my eyes widen. Quickly, I stand, seeing he really is going to go into my drawer. I rush forward, not wanting him to see the photos on in desk, but he moves quick with a chuckle and rounds my desk, his hand going to the drawer.

Crap, crap, crap.

I quickly rush over to him but freeze seeing the photo of us in his hand, a chocolate bar in his other, but that isn’t what has his attention. Instead, it’s the photo of me and Mama on my desk, his smile truly vanished, the joking side of him no longer anywhere to be seen.

Double crap.

He looks at me with a raised brow, his jaw tense, and I sigh as he demands, “I need an explanation, and now.”

Seriously? Yeah no.

I snort, crossing my arms over my chest as I side-eye Tate to see she’s alright as she munches on her chocolate, oblivious to the train wreck that is about to happen, and I comment, “I don’t need to explain anything to you, Fury,” his jaw ticks at my using his road name, but I continue, “I don’t trust you. ”

He shakes his head, looking down at the photo in his hand, a time when I did stupidly trust him, before he looks back at me and states, “The whole club believes she’s the reason you want nothing to do with them, with Brick and Blade, they believe she’s treated you like crap, I mean fuck –” he cuts off his words eyeing Tate before looking back at me.

He says quietly, “They think she smacked that fucker Brock because she saw you and shouted shit at you trying to start a war.”

I tilt my head and state, “Or she attacked him because he threatened to use my body with or without my permission and she shouted me to keep walking so she could handle the situation.”

Fury’s mouth parts in shock while I keep my face stoic.

The VP had a big mouth at the wrong time.

I’d just left Mama, dodging the prospects of the Dark Angels, not wanting them to know about our relationship because I knew Brick would try and use it to his advantage, and Mama had lost it hearing his words.

He’s lucky he just got a bloodied nose at the time, and his bike scratched, though I hear he’s dead now at the hands of Luna, and good riddance, too.

Fury blinks, then blinks again, then says, “I-I, I don’t understand then, how, why… You look like you're ten or eleven here, Sky! How long have you known her?”

I smirk, and I admit, “Mama has been in my life since I was eight years old,” Fury steps back in shock, and I continue, “She is the one who took me to all my medical appointments. She’s the one who bought me back to school clothes and supplies, who went to my graduations, even the small ones, she’s the one who went to parent conferences and picked me up from school,” his eyes go wider as Tate plays by herself behind me, “She’s the one who fed me,” I take a step forward.

I admit, “She is the one who brought me up, the money Brick gave Melissa never coming my way and the only reason why Mama didn’t take me from her is because the bitch made a police report after she slept with Brick. ”

Fury slowly closes his eyes and murmurs, “She was going to claim rape if Anna took you.”

I turn my head when I hear Tate giggle and I smile a little, seeing her playing with her dolls before I look back at Fury, whose eyes are now on me intently.

I admit, “I told her I wanted to meet Blade,” his mouth parts, “I didn’t want anything to do with Brick because of how we met, but Blade, well, I always wanted a brother, but Melissa hit me with a bat,” Fury’s nostrils flare.

I tilt my head, “She said she’d kill herself if I had anything to do with the club, and at that time, she was the only parent I knew.

So I ran to my room in tears with a sore side while she cackled but as soon as my door shut, she started screaming,” I smile a little, “Mama beat her up for hurting me and threatened to kill her if she ever touched me again. It’s also when I heard Melissa mention the rape threat.

Since Mama loves Brick something I know she wishes she didn’t… ”

Fury nods and asks, “And that’s when you met her?”

I shake my head and deny, “No,” before I admit, “she came back to the trailer the next night and parked outside, I guess to make sure I was safe, and I climbed out my window and apologized for being born.” Fury winces.

I nod and ask, “Do you know what Mama did?” he shakes his head, and I smile wide and inform him, “She climbed out of her truck and told me I had nothing to apologize over before I threw myself in her arms where she held me tightly.”

“Because you knew she was your mother in every way but blood, like you and my daughter,” he finishes, and I nod, not denying his words as I look at Tate and mutter, “Like mother like daughter, falling in love with someone else’s child.”

“Fuck,” he sighs, and I look back at him as he says, “You’re an adult now.

Melissa’s claims are moot point, especially with the fact Anna raised you without all of us knowing, might I add, Brick thinks she’s having an affair for Christ sake,” I shrug my shoulders.

He sighs and asks, “Why not have a relationship with Blade? I can understand Brick, believe me, I fucking do. I barely speak to the man, and his sole focus is winning his woman back, but why not have a relationship with Blade?”

“I can’t tell you,” I admit, knowing he’d go back and tell Blade and Brick, and he frowns, but I remind him, “I don’t trust you anymore, Fury.

You broke me back then and not because of that sweet girl.

We weren’t a couple when she was created, and I understood your reasoning for why you needed to end things at the time.

I really did, even if it hurt me, she needed you, and you needed to come to terms with the fact that you were about to be a dad and not by choice. ”

He growls, “Fuck, Viper was right,” before he looks at me and confirms, “It’s because I lied…”

I nod once and remind him, “You built us on a lie. How we met, the stories you told me, everything was a lie, dammit Fury, you told me you had no family and were alone, you played me all because your President told you to then went back and told him everything I said to you,” my eyes race between his.

I admit, “You’ve broken my trust, and I don’t think you’ll be able to get it back again,” I chew my bottom lip before I state, “I love you, Fury, I always have, but there is no relationship without trust.”

His jaw ticks before Tate sequels “Ray-Ray,” and I sigh internally for the break in this conversation as I turn and watch Raya catch Tate.

“Hey, munchkin, whatcha up to?” Raya asks Sky as she plops her on her hip, and I grin wide as Tate replies, “Playing with my Sky-Sky.”

Raya hums and looks between me and Fury with a raised brow, but I subtly shake my head, and she nods in understanding.

I know he’s never been this side of my office before, and I know she’s aware he’s seen the photo, but he doesn’t know anything, and I won’t be opening my mouth, and now neither will she.

“I’ll gain your trust back,” Fury says close to my ear, his warm breath sending goosebumps down my arms. “I won’t be letting Brick, Blade, or the club aware of your relationship with Anna.

Clearly, you’ve kept it a secret for a reason.

I’ll respect that until you are ready, but know this, I won’t be giving up on us, just like I haven’t in nearly five years, and I think it’s time you start letting me back in again so I can tell you everything you want to know about my family because, precious, that is the only lie I told you.

And for what it’s worth, I fucking love you too. ”

He presses a hard kiss to my head, making me swallow hard before he gently leans the photo of him and me up against the side of the one of Tate before he walks over to the chair, takes a seat again, and asks, “How’s Venom, Raya?” all while I stand there shocked.

Raya narrows her eyes at him and snaps, “I don’t know, I don’t care…”

She’s such a liar.

Venom is Ivy’s big brother and Raya’s major crush, who treats her like crap believing she’s only friends with Ivy to piss off Daddy, who is dead but he doesn’t know that and she refuses to tell him.

Raya grew up with money but was never spoiled. Her parents wanted her to have a level head, but after her father died, everything he had went into a trust for her, something his family is not aware of, who are now broke and demanded the inheritance.

They think it all got tied up in bills, while Raya refuses to touch it.

Anyhow, Venom has treated her like crap for years, and she kept backing away until he brought up her father, and she snapped, so now she’s gotten his attention, and she dodges him every chance she gets.

“Lair,” Fury chuckles, and Raya sticks out her tongue at him before paying attention to Tate again. I shake my head and round my desk, leaning against it only to find Fury’s attention on me.

He looks me over before he nods once and confirms, “Anna,” and I swallow hard, looking at Tate and Raya before I look back at Fury and admit, “She thought I’d have a good relationship with her, and the same with Ivy, Raya, and Lake.”

He hums, eyeing his daughter, then looks at me and states, “You have Anna’s heart,” and my eyes tear up.

“That is probably the best compliment you could give me,” I admit, and he tilts his head, looking at me intently and I look away, making eye contact with Raya, who still has Tate in her arms, and she gives me a sad smile.

When Fury is near, all I want to do is curl up in his arms and ask him to never let me go, especially on a day like today.

I wasn’t lying to him. I understood his reasonings with Tate, but what I can’t seem to get over is the fact he lied to me, made me feel like our whole time together was a facade all for Brick, for the club then breaking my trust by repeating everything I said to him back to them.

He didn’t think how I’d feel in the end, only doing what he was told to do.

I don’t think there is any coming back from that, and besides, I won’t put Mama in that predicament either.

If I give Fury a second chance, especially when he has been trying to prove to me over the years that he made a mistake, then Mama may have to make a decision on her marriage and whether or not to explain her pain.

I won’t do that to her, even if it means moving on from the man who stole my heart with lies.
