Mason's friends both gave me grateful looks.
"You must be Bree." The pretty girl stood up and shook my hand warmly. "Mason said you're a Disney Princess fan? Maybe there's a chance we won't completely bomb this one."
Mason's guy friend stood to pull out a chair and gestured for me to take a seat. I had the urge to pull Samantha over and show her this guy. With his impressive height and onyx hair, he was the epitome of tall, dark and handsome.
"Good to meet you, Bree," the guy said. "I'm Connor, and this is my girlfriend, Quinn."
Connor beamed at her, his eyes shining with love and pride, as if she were a goddess and he was one of her lucky chosen disciplines. I'd rarely seen a man more in love.
"Connor is my best friend," Mason added.
"You're the one who hired Mason to manage the place?" I asked.
"And he's been amazing at it," Connor said enthusiastically. "I never doubted for a second he'd handle it all."
"I'm not doing too bad," Mason replied.
"So modest," Quinn teased. "It's because of you we're able to concentrate on the new project. The bar is in good hands."
"These are the answers we've got so far." Mason pushed a piece of paper across the table and set it in front of me.
It was the sheet where they had written down the answers to the quiz questions. Half of them were blank. Another quarter had been scratched out and written over, clearly questions they had second-guessed themselves on.
"If we're going to win," I started, "then I'll need to go through and make sure you got the right answers."
"I was writing down the questions as the quizmaster asked them," Quinn said.
"Well, these first three are completely wrong," I said with an apologetic smile.
"Feel free to change any and all answers," Mason said.
"This one is kind of a trick question." I pointed to the oldest Disney princess question. "But it's not so hard if you're a true fan."
Connor laughed and gave me a hearty pat on the shoulder.
"Looks like you really are going to be our savior," he said.
I went through the questions quickly and managed to scribble down the right answers in between answering the new questions as the quizmaster asked them.
Mason and his two friends stared at me with wide eyes until we got to the last question.
"You really know your stuff," Connor said.
I wrote down the answer to the final question, then set the pen down with a relieved sigh and pretended to wipe sweat off my forehead.
"I think you owe me at least a drink for that," I told Mason.
"You can have as many drinks as you want," he replied. "It's on the house."

"Are you not working tonight?" I asked.
"Mason hasn't taken a day off since he started here," Quinn said. "We convinced him he needed to take a break and have some fun."
I had to wonder if it was because of me they decided to make Disney trivia the night Mason took off. Had Mason talked to them about me? Did they know about our night together? Maybe he'd simply mentioned a girl he knew was a Disney fan.
Either way, Connor and Quinn must have suspected something was up between us. As soon as the quizmaster paused the game to collect all the answer sheets the two of them stood from their chairs.
