“Stop eye-fucking my boyfriend,” he demanded with a heated glare.

“What boyfriend?” I asked, feigning confusion. When he glanced pointedly at the man beside him, I added, “Oh, you mean Connor?” The shock on both their faces was comical. “Don’t worry, he’s into Gabi anyway.”

Connor’s mouth dropped open, before snapping shut again. “Gabi and I are just friends.”

I grinned. “If you say so.”

Gabi picked that moment to emerge from Sean’s flat wearing her sundress and some sparkly sandals. Her long, dark hair was still wet and pulled into a messy bun at the nape of her neck. She looked fresh and pretty, and totally fuckable. The way Connor’s gaze zeroed in on her said he wanted to be the one to do the honours. “She believes the whole friends thing, mate,” I said to him. “You’ll have to show your hand if you want things to change.” Connor glared at me.

“I’m going to head off,” Gabi said as she approached cautiously. “Thanks for the great party guys.”

“I’ll come with you,” Connor said, extracting himself from around Sean. “The jig is up and these two need to bealonewith their drama.”

Gabi looked at me and Sean with a chagrined expression. “He figured it out before I slipped up with the name,” she told Sean. “I swear.”

Sean sighed and shook his head. “Don’t worry about it, Gabi.” He opened his arms and she ran over to give him a quick hug and a kiss on the cheek. “Call me,” she whispered before following Connor out through the side gate that led to the driveway.

“Your fake boyfriend’s right,” I said, standing to face Sean. “We need to talk.”
