Finally, Gu Xiaoxi and her three companions were taken to the City Guard of Dafen Country.

Since their resistance group was hastily organized and the commander was temporarily assigned, even the military base was constructed out of a residential building.

There was a television, but it took a good while to connect to a TV channel via antenna. After confirming Gu Xiaoxi’s identity, the commander agreed to drive her to a designated location.

But she had to help them resist the current invaders first.

These people ran amok everywhere, killing anyone they encountered. The civilians had already retreated to another city to take refuge. Only the military, elderly, and some orphans who hadn’t managed to evacuate remained here.

Gu Xiaoxi felt that as long as they believed in her, that was enough. As for the war and the enemy numbers, she had already seen a part of them.

The aircraft from before had disappeared without a trace, leaving only four tanks, ten armored vehicles, and nearly three hundred soldiers on the ground.

What Gu Xiaoxi had just witnessed was merely one of the enemy’s squads. Similar forces were present to the north, east, and west of the city.

The enemy numbered three hundred, while there were only a hundred defenders made up of spontaneously organized city dwellers, armed with only the most basic weapons, and lacking in ammunition.

This war would indeed be difficult to win if they were to fight on their own.

However, the addition of Gu Xiaoxi and her companions could instantly turn the tide.

It goes without saying – one could well imagine how the enemy was defeated.

Gu Xiaoxi gathered all their soldiers, summoned them all, and in the end, she only chose twenty middle-aged men who were skilled with guns and physically strong. Then she led them quickly into the battlefield on the east side.

By that time, the city had already been half destroyed by the three invading squads. Blood flowed in the streets, and many dead elderly lay in the ruins.

"An empty city on the brink of doomsday! Why must there be such fratricide!" Yun Xiao shook his head with a sigh.

Gu Xiaoxi narrowed her eyes with a firm tone, "That’s why, as soldiers, we must become stronger and protect our nation and country. We cannot allow our country to experience such a day."

Jing Haoran and Ji Xinyu nodded solemnly as well. Dafen Country was a prime example.

The citizens were wealthy, yet there were few soldiers.

Once war broke out, cities and palaces would turn to ruins. No matter how much money they had, it would eventually be burned by the invaders.

Gu Xiaoxi first attacked the very group they had encountered before – Jing Haoran had already killed the ones operating the tanks, and Gu Xiaoxi and Yun Xiao had also taken out a few soldiers.

What was once a hundred-man legion now had just over ninety left, prompting the commanding officer to explode with rage.

"Have you found out who these women are, daring to run into our territory to save people?" the highest military commander of the legion barked.

Before he could finish speaking, the crack of a gunshot pierced the tense atmosphere.

Standing on the roof of a dilapidated building, Gu Xiaoxi and Jing Haoran looked down coldly at the commander, "An arrogant and unreasonable bandit."

The commander immediately became vigilant and quickly retreated, ordering, "Kill them!"

However, before he finished speaking, he felt a chill on his neck, and in an instant, his head fell to the ground.

Ji Xinyu didn’t hesitate at all when striking; her dagger slashed across the neck, and even before the blood could spray out, the enemy was dead. She then turned to attack another person.

Gu Xiaoxi and Jing Haoran quickly joined the battle.

Yun Xiao had begun to control the enemy on a large scale, and Ice Needles rained down like ox hair from the sky. The Guardians of Dafen Country were stunned by the actions of these four women.

Impressed by their prowess, they too joined in the fight. In a short time, as the last gunshot fell silent,

the streets finally returned to peace.

—Other than death, there was the pungent smell of blood.

Gu Xiaoxi and her companions only felt a heavy heart, enveloped in an indescribable desolation.

Compared to the people of Dafen Country, beyond their excitement, there was more disbelief; four individuals, leading twenty of their own, had defeated three hundred well-trained soldiers of Superior Country.

Not only that, the enemy had advanced weapons, cannons, and technology, and yet they were still utterly defeated.

The people of Dafen Country were moved to tears at this time. They had fled, retreated, and resisted all the way. Many cities had been destroyed, and all their friends and relatives had perished. This was the fiercest battle they had ever fought, and the only victory they had achieved.

"Thank you for your help! I will remember you," said Xiao Ma, the commander of the resistance force and the only one who could communicate with Gu Xiaoxi in the international language.

"There’s no need to remember us; we didn’t do much. Now that I’ve seized their vehicle, I need to rush to the target location. I think you’re needed here. So, you don’t need to escort me," Gu Xiaoxi had not forgotten her mission.

What she needed to do was not to help them kill but to deliver the intelligence to the hands of the king of Dafen Country as quickly as possible. Perhaps, with that, the war would come to a halt.

"How can that be! I must personally take you there. Without me, there are many checkpoints on the road, and you wouldn’t be able to get through," explained Xiao Ma.

Gu Xiaoxi was unfamiliar with the transportation in this area, but since Xiao Ma was determined to escort her, she let him do so; she had to reach her destination as quickly as possible.

An hour later, they obtained food and water in the city and then set off towards their destination in a stolen armored vehicle.

On their way, they passed through several cities, which were much safer than the war-torn remote areas, especially around the capital of Dafen Country.

If it weren’t for Xiao Ma’s presence, explaining for them, they wouldn’t have been able to pass through smoothly at all.

"Xiao Xi, we have only one day left. At this pace, we won’t reach our destination today," Jing Haoran said as he looked at the map. The vehicle was too slow. The mountain roads were winding, and many of the roads were in such disrepair that they had been bombed out.

"If we can’t make it today, we’ll get there tomorrow. Do we have any other choice right now?" Gu Xiaoxi gazed out at the withered yellow leaves outside the window, her eyebrows deeply furrowed.

Along the way, what struck her most was the sudden realization of the importance of a soldier.

Without soldiers, there is no strength; without soldiers, there is no peace; without soldiers, how can a country be stable!

It was not until this moment that she realized the enormity of her task.

After traveling day and night, they finally arrived at their destination at noon of the following day.

A bustling capital city, in stark contrast to the war-ravaged cities they had seen before.

There were troops here to protect the city, and although they were not numerous, they ensured the safety of the local people at the very least.

Following the directions on the map, Gu Xiaoxi found the entrance to the palace where the king of Dafen Country resided.

The instructions stated that the intelligence box in her hand had to be delivered here.

Their arrival caught the attention of the guard soldiers.

A soldier came over to inspect them and, after hearing Xiao Ma’s explanation, went back to report to the king.

Gu Xiaoxi and her companions were invited to the great hall.

Yun Xiao looked at the palace before him, his brow furrowed.

Pavilions, terraces, towers, and beautifully decorated eaves contrasted starkly with the ruins they had encountered earlier.

It was as if in an instant, she had experienced the opulence of life, followed by the destitution of poverty, and then ascended to heaven.

"Haoran, tell me. Why is it that the frontier cities are invaded, yet this place remains so prosperous and flourishing?" Gu Xiaoxi was also a bit perplexed at the moment.

Looking up at the luxury of the great hall, Jing Haoran sighed and, with his experience, said, "Superior Country only wants to capture certain cities, so they ruthlessly kill people along the way. Dafen, on the other hand, has a scarcity of troops and needs to protect the Capital, so they haven’t dispatched any army.

They only recruit militiamen to defend the cities. That’s why we see what we see now."

"Damn it!" Gu Xiaoxi suddenly felt unsettled. Such idiots!

No wonder the soldiers they encountered on the way were wont to kill indiscriminately! They didn’t even spare children. With such a king, it would be strange if he wasn’t robbed by others.

Moments later, an elderly king, over sixty, clad in precious court attire, came out.

Seeing Gu Xiaoxi, he looked at her with an inquisitive gaze and asked, "It is said that you have come from Xuan State. What business do you have?"

Gu Xiaoxi handed the small box to the soldier and said, "This is the intelligence we have brought! We don’t know anything else."

The king stared at the box, and after the soldier opened it and presented it to him, his brow immediately furrowed.

Gu Xiaoxi looked up stealthily and also frowned. It was a mobile phone!

The king pondered for a moment, turned on the mobile phone, and discovered a stored phone number, so he picked up the phone and dialed it.
