“What about the projects I’m in the middle of?”
“I’ll have someone in your department take over while you’re gone.”
“How long will that be?”
“A week.”
“A week?” Not that I was opposed to business trips, but last-minute ones didn’t give me a lot of time to brief each point person on what needed to be done while I was gone. I hated not being able to personally oversee the day-to-day operations of my department.
“Yes. Do your homework and get this right, Dean. I’m counting on you.”
I nodded and stood.
My father handed me a stack of folders which I presumed to be about this new company we were working to acquire. I was not about to let Jules D’Amboise, a man who was a throwback to another era force me to give up my dreams.
I’d land this deal and prove to everyone I was more than ready.
CHAPTER SIX
Ashlyn
The watch on my wristbuzzed, reminding me that Elaine was in a meeting with Adelise, and I had a solid thirty minutes to myself. My hands reached into the small bin I kept under my work desk with the scraps I carefully hoarded from the wedding gowns and bridesmaids’ dresses I worked on. These scraps were what I used to create my prototypes for my lingerie line.
And my stepmother had no idea.
The lace pieces I'd cut and hemmed for the bra's front triangles were on top of the pile. It was a gorgeous pale pink with a slight shimmer. The inside padded cup was where I’d sewn in my secret empowering message, “Confidence is Sexy.”
I placed the pad with the lace underneath it on the base of my sewing machine with my foot on the pedal. If I hurried, I could get most of this piece finished before Elaine’s meeting was done.
“How did it go last night?” Stella’s sweet voice broke through my concentration.
I jumped and almost jammed my finger through the moving needle of the machine. I yanked my hand back and took a deep breath. The mere mention of last night flooded my mind with visions of a naked Dean.
After bolting from him, I grabbed the layout of the building to find out whose office I’d been in and whose body I had been ogling. With a pounding heart and the blood rushing out of my head, I almost passed out when I realized it was the president of the company’s son, Dean Prince. The person who was set to take over the entire Prince Industries empire someday. The guy who currently ran the wedding division and the direct competition of Enchanted Bridal Boutique.
And my one-night stand.
