Story: Ember Dragon
Alger said to the two, "With me watching here, they won't actively attack you, but if you accidentally fall to your death, then you'll become food for the wyverns."
"Good luck."
This was the entry trial for the 【Crimson Scaled Conqueror】 set by Cassius. Over the years, at least a hundred minions had participated in this challenge, but none succeeded; they either fell to their deaths or fled before completion.
Mantou said tearfully, "Well, I really should thank you then."
The wyverns violently flapped their wings in mid-air, screeching, roaring, growling, gradually surrounding them.
In their view, as long as they could throw these humans to their deaths, they'd have snacks to eat, which was quite easy. They were already experienced, having sent several hobgoblins and tieflings to their deaths.
Singo looked at the approaching wyverns and whispered, "Mantou, have you chosen yet?"
"Chosen what?"
Mantou was still confused.
But Singo took several coils of rope from his backpack, tossed one to Mantou, then threw him a can of spray containing some unknown liquid.
"Of course, choose a mount!"
"Huh?"
Mantou was still frightened by being surrounded by wyverns, but he quickly understood Singo's crazy move and was stunned.
Singo ignored him and continued, "I think that one on the cliff is good—probably the biggest and strongest one in this area. Don't you dare compete with me for it."
"Watch closely; I'll only demonstrate this once. I've practiced this move for a long time—tried it before in 'Red Dead Redemption.'"
After speaking, he deftly threw the lasso, directly and accurately looping it around the neck of a massive wyvern over four meters long on the cliff wall, then forcefully tightened the rope.
"Roar—"
The wyvern, suddenly ensnared, was a bit panicked.
It struggled violently, shaking its neck, letting out screeches, then frantically flapped its wings, trying to throw off the human pulling on it.
But Singo held onto the rope tightly, wrapping the hemp rope several times around his hand, then used the wyvern's struggling movements to leap directly onto its back.
"Roar!"
Being mounted by what it considered a weak and insignificant human, the wyvern was instantly enraged.
It twisted its neck back and forth, its wings flapping wildly. Its massive body accelerated, braked suddenly, spun in the air, and even deliberately crashed its back against the cliff wall.
But Singo's arms were tightly wrapped around its neck, refusing to let go no matter how it struggled.
He even freed one hand, took out the spray can, and sprayed it onto the wyvern's head, not forgetting to explain mid-air, "What's in this can is female wyvern hormones; it can soothe their emotions and nerves!"
However, this kind of confrontation also took a toll on Singo.
After several bouts, he finally exhausted his strength. He had to seize an opportunity when the wyvern swooped low to leap off, rolling several times on the ground to absorb the impact.
Seeing this, the wyvern wanted to take the chance to attack, letting out a roar.
But Singo quickly got up, drank a vitality potion, continued to confront the wyvern head-on, waiting for another chance to mount its back.
"Still quite a ways to go. I guess I'll be spending all day with it here."
Singo grinned, looking quite excited, panting as he said, "This thing is really tough to handle. But fortunately, every time I get on, the system shows an increase in proficiency."
"If we repeat this a few times, we can probably max out the Riding skill."
Mantou was speechless for a moment and could only sigh:
"You're really a beast."
But thinking of his dream to soar in the sky and recalling his eighteen days of hard labor, Mantou realized he was just one step away; how could he retreat now?
He steeled himself.
Mantou looked at the wyverns, gritted his teeth, and forcefully threw his lasso, luckily hitting on the first try, ensnaring a three-meter-long wyvern with bared fangs and claws.
Then the wyvern struggled frantically and took to the sky.
However, Mantou couldn't mount its back and was instead hanging below, being flown all over the sky by the wyvern.
"Aaaaah——"
"I'm gonna die, gonna die, gonna die—Singo, help me!"
His miserable screams echoed throughout the valley.
From the ground, Singo watched Mantou being swung around dizzily and said disdainfully, "If you're bad at it, just practice more."
He drew his Hunter's Longbow and took aim.
"Whoosh—"
The arrow flew out, severing the lasso's rope in one shot, causing Mantou to fall from mid-air and land face-first on the ground.
"Singo, is this how you save people..."
With his face in the dirt, Mantou was on the verge of tears and could only silently drink a healing potion.
Meanwhile, Singo once again caught up with the previous wyvern and began the second round with it.
Thus, in Wyvern Valley, the two players engaged in intense bouts with the wyverns. The wyverns threw them off time and again, but they kept mounting again and again, becoming increasingly proficient and staying on longer each time.
Eventually, they could even control the wyvern's direction through their movements, maintaining balance with just their legs without falling.
By now, the wyvern had become impatient, flying directly up to a hundred meters high, spinning in circles, attempting to throw off the human on its back to their death.
But Singo remained calm, using a pre-prepared Feather Fall scroll to float gently to the ground, infuriating the wyvern to the point that it roared with spittle flying everywhere.
"Roar—"
They heard the wyvern's somewhat feeble, hoarse roar.
[Your skill experience has reached the requirement]
[Your proficiency in the skill 【Riding】 has increased to +3]
Singo landed lightly on the ground and said to Mantou, who had just gotten off the wyvern's back, "That was nice. My Riding proficiency is now +3. How about you?"
Mantou, supporting himself on his knees and panting heavily, said, "I'm at +2 now. But this weightlessness makes me want to vomit; I wonder if there's a vomiting mechanic here..."
Singo said disdainfully, "That's just because you're bad. How can someone who gets dizzy on dragons become a knight?"
Mantou retorted speechlessly, "You think everyone is a beast like you? If we bring Brother Battle Maniac here, he might really puke all over the place."
Alger watched the two panting humans, witnessing their riding skills improve at a visible rate. A rare hint of astonishment appeared in his golden eyes.
"These so-called 'gifted ones' might truly become wyvern riders in a short time."
"Truly... unbelievable."
His years of training experience were completely upended.
You must know, these wyverns are far more ferocious than giant eagles; trying to control them is nearly impossible.
Even in the previous Northwind Eagle Guard, among the three hundred who underwent more than ten years of training, only a few elites like him could achieve this.
But these two humans...
Their talent even made Alger question his life.
