Page 60 of Die for You (Diamond Devils #4)
Aurora
Finn holds the door to the bookstore open for me, and Damien squeezes my ass as he follows me in.
I yelp and swat at him, but I can’t help but smirk. Even in public, they refuse to behave. I can’t take the Devils anywhere.
“Be good,” I whisper. “We’re going to be on our best behavior for Violet.”
“We’ll listen to her talk for a bit,” Damien offers, “but when she starts reading that first chapter, we’re fucking you against one of these shelves.”
Before I can protest, Knox cuts in, “Don’t worry. We’ll be back in time for the signing.”
I roll my eyes as Finn takes my hand with mischief glinting in his gaze. They’re all ridiculous.
Four years later, and the Devils are still just as insane as they were when we met.
Now that Finn has completed his PhD program, he dresses the part.
He’s traded his joggers, trainers, and hoodies for button-ups and slacks.
When he rolls his sleeves up to his elbows, I melt every time.
There’s even something sexy about the watch he’s started wearing to keep track of his busy schedule.
With both of our studies completed, we’re moving back to Diamond.
Damien recently landed a position as the assistant coach for the Diamond Devils team, and Knox has already found a location where he plans to open his own physical therapy practice.
The house we found has the perfect closet for a home studio for me, and one of the songs I posted online last week has been gaining hundreds of thousands of views every day.
Even though I’m always home when I’m with the Devils, coming back to Diamond feels like coming back to the place where I grew up.
The place where I met my Devils and fell in love.
Where my whole life changed for the better.
Where I finally found the missing pieces to my puzzle that I’d spent so long searching for.
In an open, spacious corner of the bookstore, Violet sits behind a table full of stacks of her newest book, her first ever to be traditionally published.
This one is even juicier, twistier, and sexier than her first. I devoured it in one sitting.
The Devils checked on me multiple times throughout the day to make sure I was still alive and kept me fed and hydrated.
Violet looks exactly the part of an author—reading glasses perched on her nose, long brown hair falling down her back, skirt nearly brushing the floor, and a huge grin on her face at her friends, family, and readers arriving for the signing event.
Wes looms at her side, always protective and vigilant. Just like my Devils.
“Aurora!” Violet waves me over when she spots me, and I rush over to hug her and gush my praises about her books. She’s my new favorite author.
When I pull away, I beam down at her stomach. “When are you due?”
She plants a hand on her belly, even though it’s barely protruding. Nothing bigger than my stomach after too much bread. “Five months.”
“Congratulations, Wes,” I call.
He nods his gratitude to me, mouth still serious. He’s on high alert, like anyone who hugs his wife too tightly might hurt her and the baby.
“Have you decided on a name?”
“Elizabeth.” Violet smiles. “That was Chloe’s middle name.”
In the years since Violet and I met, I’ve heard the story about Chloe. Even if I never got to meet her, my eyes sting with happy tears. What a beautiful way for them to pay homage to Wes’s sister and Violet’s best friend. The girl who brought them together in the first place.
“I love it. Elizabeth will love spending time with Auntie Aurora and her uncles.”
“Don’t forget her Aunt Sienna!” Sienna squeezes Violet in a hug that makes Wes tense until she wraps her arms around me.
Luke brushes past to shake Wes’s hand and give Violet a gentle side-hug, eyeing Wes the whole time like he thinks his former teammate might attack at any second. “I’ve missed you!”
“We just saw you last week,” I remind her.
She pokes me in the side. “That’s not enough .”
“Damn.” I catch her hand. “That’s a fucking rock .”
“It could take an eye out,” a flat, feminine voice agrees from behind me.
Juliet and Trey are decked out in their usual all-black, motorcycle helmets in hand.
They haven’t changed a bit. The only difference is the matching wedding bands on their fingers.
As soon as we graduated, they took off to the courthouse without telling anyone and eloped, breaking the news to the rest of us in the group chat.
“I want to hear all about the proposal.” Violet beams between Luke and Sienna.
“It was so romantic.” Sienna presses a hand to her chest, batting her lashes up at Luke, who grins down at her like he won the lottery and tugs her close.
“So romantic,” he agrees. To Violet, he says, “You should put it in your next book.”
Sienna squeals her approval.
“Make sure there’s more sex in the next one,” Juliet calls.
Trey nods. “At least every other chapter.”
“Agreed.” Damien’s voice is low in my ear.
“We gotta catch up after the event.” Knox grins. “Housewarming party at our new place?”
Violet claps. “Yes! I want to hear all of the updates!” When Wes clears his throat at the readers taking seats in front of us, she adds, “After I finish signing some books.”
We find our own seats. Damien and Knox on my sides, Finn directly behind me with possessive hands massaging my shoulders.
A moderator asks Violet questions about the book until they take questions from the audience.
Violet is totally in her element talking about her book with readers, and I’m so happy for her.
When the signing line begins to form, the Devils grin at me and lead me away to a quiet corner of the bookstore.
Finn shoves me up against a shelf, and I yelp before Damien’s hand covers my mouth to silence me.
Damien on my side, Knox on the other, Finn in front of me. The same position we were in at the Sigma Chi party all those years ago, when I finally gave myself over to them.
I peel Damien’s palm off my mouth. “We should get back to the signing. We don’t want anyone to catch us.”
“They know exactly what we’re doing,” Damien growls. “It’s on them if they come looking.”
Finn presses a finger to my lips and signs, Quiet . Don’t let them hear you.
“You’re not going anywhere, angel.” Knox grins. “And neither are we.”
As Finn kneels, I smile and stop protesting. Knox is right. I’m not going anywhere.
After all, every devil needs his angel.
