The rage in his voice makes me smile. “So if you want to stop that from happening, then you need to get to Rome now. You need to stop him.”
And this way, Denis will be away from my sisters, meaning he can’t hurt them for the time being.
“I can’t just leave New York,” he mutters.
“You can if you want to stop Nico from entering into a new business deal that you’re not a part of. What’s it going to be, uncle?”
Denis is quiet for a long moment before he huffs. “Fine. I’ll be there. Give me the address.”
I don’t hesitate to do so. Nico is going to be angry when he finds out but as long as Denis is away from my sisters, then maybe they have a chance to escape.
The moment I hang up, I go to call Natalya to let her know so that way she and Mikhail can try to get Irina and Ana out.
But then I hear Nico’s footsteps on the other side of the door and I have no choice but to shove the phone back into the drawer and drop to my knees. I can see the door open from where I’m hiding but I can’t see anything else.
I hold my breath. If Nico finds me in here, he’ll know I’m up to no good. I was spared a spanking tonight but that could all change if he spots me.
I clamp my hand over my mouth to silence my breathing.
Just go, just go, just go, I think to myself.
After a moment, the door closes and I hear Nico walk away.
I ease myself off the floor and crack open the door. Nico is turning the corner towards the living room. With a burst of energy, I run down the hallway on my tiptoes and reach the kitchen. I grab the bread on the counter and open the refrigerator right before Nico enters the kitchen.
“There you are,” he says.
“Sorry. I was hungry.”
“After our dinner?”
“I didn’t eat much after Giovanni cornered me. I still felt a little hungry.”
“Fair enough. But you’re going to eat that whole sandwich right before me.”
I try to make my face look as innocent as I can. “You don’t believe me when I say I’m hungry?”
“I know that you can be a bit sneaky. I noticed my office light on. I know I turned it off before I came up to our room.”
My hands still on the counter. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
He presses his body against my back, holding me prisoner against the counter. All the hard lines and edges of his body are prominent. I find myself leaning back against him.
“What game are you playing now, Sasha?” he asks in my ear.
“No game.” I pick up a piece of bread, pretending to be innocent.
“Well, whatever it is, I’ll find out and I’ll spank you for it.” He grabs my ass, making me gasp, and drop the piece of bread. Then he lets me go and leaves the kitchen.
I shove the bread away. I’m not hungry at all.
I try to sleep that night but all I can think about is Nico next to me. Nico touching me. Nico’s mouth between my legs.
I toss and I turn so much that Nico sits up and turns the light and asks me what’s wrong.
“Nothing,” I lie right away. He can’t know I called Denis. Well, I guess he will find out when Denis eventually arrives. I’m not even sure what I’m fully hoping for when Denis shows up. He’s not going to kill Nico and honestly, I don’t want Nico dead anymore.
I just want to get Denis away from my sisters, even for a few days.
