Page 33 of Darkest Desire
Now, I stare down at my wife, looking terrified and wide eyed. I’m not sure if it’s because of what Jeffrey was just about to do to her or if it’s because I just killed him.
“I told you not to come in here,” I snap.
That seems to startle her out of her trance and she backs away from me on her hands and ass. “I… I didn’t know.”
“Exactly. That’s why I told you not to come in here. You were supposed to listen.”
A flash of anger courses through her eyes. I like it. “You could have told me what this place was for! If you had, I never would have snuck in. I would have… obeyed.”
“Would you have? You don’t really seem like the type of woman to obey anyone.”
“I would have had more information to make a good choice,” she grumbles. “I wouldn’t have come in here naively and found myself in this situation if you had just told me what happens in your maze.”
“And you should have just listened to me when I said you’re not ready for something like this.”
She pushes herself to her feet. Her dress is torn and her hair is a mess but the fire in her eyes makes her look beautiful. Sexy. “Because you know me so well? You know what I am and what I’m not ready for?”
“Yes.”
She scoffs, flapping her arms at her sides. “You’re unbelievable.”
“No. You are. I told you to not come in here and yet you did anyway.”
“Was it a test?”
I frown. “A test?”
“Yes. By not telling me enough, you get me intrigued so I come in here and this happens.” She nods at Jeffery. “I get hurt and you come to my rescue.”
“Trust me, Sasha. I had no desire for this to happen.” I fling a dismissive hand towards Jeffrey’s corpse. “I had to kill one of my men. An associate. People are going to wonder why. This will come back on me.”
“You didn’t have to kill him.”
“Didn’t I? He was attacking you. You called out for me. You knew I’d come kill him.”
“Actually Nico, I didn’t. I didn’t know for a fact if you were going to do any of this. I don’t know you well enough to know. I was hoping you’d come save me because we’re married now. But I didn’t know you’d kill him. You could have just pushed him off me and gotten me out of here. This is your house. Your maze. Don’t blame his death on me.”
I want to kiss her cute little mouth just to shut her up but I also love how she stands up to me. Not many people have the balls to do it.
“Fair enough,” I say. “I won’t blame Jeffrey’s death on you. It was my fault. But I am mad at you for coming into this party when you should not have.”
“You should have told me! If you had, I never would have come in here.”
“How was I supposed to know that? By telling you, it could have intrigued you enough to want to come in and fuck any man you want. You clearly have no issues fucking men, considering all the men you’ve been with.”
She flushes, averting my gaze, and confirming my suspicions. There’s no way Sasha has fucked multiple men.Maybeone. Maybe.
But I have a feeling in my gut that she’s a virgin. Lev Petrov was known for being overprotective of his daughters. He never let them date.
“So just because I’m not a virgin,” she says, “I deserve to be raped?”
She looks so sad and afraid in this moment. It’s doing something weird to me. A flutter in my chest.
“Of course not,” I say. “But you could have come in here if you had known the truth just to piss me off.”
“You’d think I’d do that? Do something just to piss you off?”
“Yes.”
