Page 70 of Darkest Desire
I almost pout when he removes his hand from between my legs.
“I could make you mine right in this moment,” he says.
My breath hitches. Is he going to? A part of me wonders if I would stop him. A part of me wonders if I would welcome him in.
But then Nico shakes his head and steps back. “I’m too angry right now. I don’t want to fuck you when I’m angry.”
I close my legs and sit up. “Angry with me?”
“No. With that fucker Giovanni. For even saying he could have you for one night. He never wanted to be partners. He just wanted to mess with me.”
“Nico, does my uncle know you were trying to make a deal with Giovanni?”
“Why do you ask?”
I shrug. “Because you’re partners with Denis. I was wondering if he knew.”
“No. He doesn’t need to know everything I get up to here in Italy. Your uncle is providing me with extra power in New Yorkbut he’s not the mafia. He’s the Bratva. He can only do so much for me. It’s why I wanted to make a deal with Giovanni. He can help me grow even more power in Italy. All around the world. But the fucker is stupid. I’ll have to kill him for even asking if he can have you.”
“Why didn’t you kill him tonight?”
“Because I was so thrown with his demand that I didn’t know what to do,” he admits. “But the next time I see him, I’ll kill him. I’m going to take a shower. I need to calm down after everything. Do you want to join me?”
The thought of showering with Nico sends shivers through me, which is why I can’t. If I let myself get too lost in him, I’ll be lost forever and I need to stay focused on my mission of saving my sisters.
“No. I’m tired.”
Nico doesn’t push it as he goes into the bathroom.
The moment he turns on the shower, I know I have to act.
Denis didn’t know about Nico trying to forge a new deal. Maybe I can use that to my advantage. I sneak downstairs to Nico’s office. He has to have extra phones on hand so no police can trace his calls.
Tonight was a wake up call. I felt relieved when Nico didn’t offer me to Giovanni. I felt excited when he gave me another orgasm. I felt like I could care for him.
All of that is a problem. I cannot care for Nico because if I do, I’ll never be able to save my sisters. They’ll be lost to Denis forever.
I open the top drawer of his desk and find a row of phones in a perfect order. Nico won’t be in a shower for long. I have a limited amount of time to do this.
With shaky hands, I pick up one of the phones and call Denis’s number. The only reason I know it is because Denis had itinstilled in my mind. He said in case of emergencies, me and my sisters could always call him.
He answers after a few rings. “Hello?”
“It’s Sasha.”
“Sasha?”
“Yes. Your niece. The one married to Nico.”
“I know who you are,” he snaps.
“Sorry. You just sounded confused.” I glance at the door. If Nico leaves the bathroom and doesn’t find me in the bedroom, he’ll come looking for me. “I have to tell you something. Nico is trying to screw you over.”
“What? What the fuck are you talking about? Nico and I are partners.”
“Maybe in New York but not in Italy. We’re in Rome for our honeymoon. He’s trying to make a deal with Giovanni Ricci. And you’re not included in that.”
“What?!”
