“Who are you and where did my wife go?”
I laugh as I stretch out my legs. My wounded leg still hurts despite being in the hospital for the past week recovering and it’s going to take it a long while before it’s fully healed. But I have hope. Hope for the future. Hope to get better. Hope with Nico.
There are still things to worry about, like Denis keeping my sisters and mom hostage but Nico took care of Giovanni for us.Liam might still be a problem but he’s one Nico can handle. I believe it. Even when I hated him, I still knew he would save me.
And he’s never let me down in that regard.
I wince when pain shoots up my leg.
“Let’s get you inside,” Nico says.
He carries me over the threshold, even as I object. “You’re my wife. I have to pamper you a little bit.”
“Where was all this pampering on our honeymoon?”
“I didn’t love you then. But I do now.”
“Very honest.”
He gives me a sweet smile as he places me onto the couch. Of course the house is fully furnished. When Nico works fast, he works fast.
“So, are you going to be my nurse?” I ask.
“No,” he snorts. “I’ve hired a nurse to help you out. I can’t be doing too many girly things. I could lose my manhood.”
“Or I could shoot you in the dick. That would work.”
He sits down beside me, placing my legs over his lap. “You could try but you won’t succeed. But I do promise to help you when you need it. I just have work to attend to so I figured a nurse would help when I’m not home. I’m looking forward to pampering you.”
“Really? You’re going to lose some power to me, you know.”
“Oh I know. But I’ve learned that it’s not a competition between us. A marriage isn’t that way. I realize now that a marriage is about keeping each other safe. And that’s all I want to do from now on. That and ravage you when you get better.”
His words make me shiver. I’m desperate for Nico to touch me again but it will be a while before my body is ready to have sex. We’ll just have to wait but I know when the time comes, it’s going to be spectacular.
“You’ve surprised me,” I admit. “I never thought I could fall in love with you but… here I am.”
“Here you are. How does it feel?”
“It feels… perfect. But don’t let that go to your head.”
“Too late.” He smirks as he kisses me. It’s gentle and sweet and everything I wished for in a husband.
But I know when I’m better our kisses will turn rough and passionate. That’s everything I need in a husband. It’s everything I need with Nico.
A month goes by and my leg is officially better. I’m still limping a little bit but physical therapy is helping and I should be back to moving normally within a few more months.
There’s only one thing on my mind after the doctor gave me the all clear.
Nico is in his office when I return home from the doctor’s appointment. Never has he looked more handsome.
I don’t say a word as I walk around his desk and grab his face and kiss him.
Nico’s hands grip my waist, sending floods of arousal through me. I’ve missed this. I’ve missed him.
“Sweetheart,” he murmurs, “if you’re not feeling better than you shouldn’t kiss me like this.”
“I am. The doctor said we could. I want to. I’m tired of waiting.”
