Page 40 of Crave
I scurried forward, skimming my back along the wall and raced out of there. I couldn’t run fast enough, plunging along thehallway and yanked open my bedroom door and threw myself inside. The flimsy lock was useless. Still I slammed the door closed and in the dark, leaned against it.
Oh, God…
Oh. GOD.
But I knew it wasn’t over. They’d never stop, not now they knew what happened in that place. Still, they didn’t know it all…not yet. I closed my eyes as a shudder tore through me. It was fear that waited…fear and the whisper of my mom’s voice.Promise me, Angel. Promise me they’ll never know.
I opened my eyes and stared into the dark. I had to find a way to get out of here. If I didn't, my days in this house would be terrifying.
Chapter Ten
THEO
Her bedroom doorslammed with abang. Outside, a car's engine started. Still, we never moved, all four of us frozen, staring at the spot on the floor where she’d fallen. “What the fuck was that?” I slowly shifted my gaze to Silas finding his pinched brows and his hardened stare.
His chest moved with a hard breath.
None of that was supposed to happen.
Not forcing her to her knees…or what she’d almost done after.
But it did, didn’t it?
It did happen and now there was no turning back.
Not for her or for us.
I reached down, tugging the front of my trousers to ease the tension.
“You…bastard.” Gabe slowly lifted his gaze turning to Silas. “Yougoddamn fucking bastard!”
He lunged before we realized, flying across the room to land a blow on Silas’ cheek with a crack. I moved fast, but Jude was closer, wrapping his arm around Gabe trying to haul him away. But the kid wasn’t going easy, fighting like a goddamn demon, thrashing in Jude’s arms.
“Gabe!” Our brother barked, wrestling him.
I stepped between them, finding the shattering look of pain in our youngest brother’s stare. “Easy.” I urged.
“Fuck you, Theo!”He raged, throwing Jude off.
But Silas’ never defended himself. He turned his head back, his cheek reddening with the blow.
“Why the fuck did you do that?”
“Because.” Silas answered coldly. “She’s a liar.”
“She’s our goddamn sister!”
But she wasn’t…not anymore. To me she’d never been to begin with. Her haughty fucking stare and perfect flowery fucking dresses, always hanging on mom’s every move.
Now we knew why.
I glanced back at that place on the floor where she knelt looking up at Silas with tears in her eyes. Do what you’ve been trained to do. I licked my lips and forced myself to step away.
“Where are you going?” Silas wrenched that glare my way. “I need you to watch her.”
I shook my head and dragged my fingers through my hair. “No fucking way. You want the bitch here, then you’re on your own.”I needed out of here, away from the image of her on her knees and the scent of fucking hunger in the air.
“Do you think about anyone else other than yourself?” Silas strode toward me, his cheek blazing and his eyes full of rage.
