“Ma!.
“I heard Pierre screaming my name.
I rushed out of the kitchen to peek into the living room, where Eileen sat. Tuesday’s mother was such a joy to have around. It was nice to have some company. Although she was a bit boisterous, it was still pretty exciting.
Since leaving Naheem’s, I had been down on myself. I felt so bad about how we ended because I feared that he would continue to take his anger out on Pierre. Although Pierre was an adult, he didn’t know Naheem's and my past, and I didn’t want that to affect his relationship with Bishop. I knew I would need to tell him, but I wasn’t sure how he would respond, and that alone kept my mind occupied.
Pierre came rushing around the corner.
“You okay? Somebody touched you? Huh?.
“his voice filled with anger.
I set my hot tea down.
“Boy, I’m fine. I had a long day, that’s all.” I lied.
His coming into the house, hostile as he was, there was no way I would tell him anything. However, if Quinton somehow made it away from Naheem, I didn’t have much time. He always had those Avery ways and that’s why I had always felt sorry for him. Him being different was something I had always hoped for, but Quinton never quite got there.
I could see Pierre searching my eyes for a signal for him to act like a monkey fool.
“You came into this house and didn’t speak. I’m not the only one in here, boy!”
He turned to see Tuesday’s mother. She turned and waved.
“Hi! You must be the young man my daughter is in love with.”
“Damnit, Ma, please!.
“Tuesday snapped.
It was nice to see the two of them in the same room. My son deserved love, and I knew Tuesday would give him what he needed. Pierre waved back at Eileen.
“Hello, you said she’s in love with me, huh?”
Tuesday rolled her eyes.
“Don’t listen to her.”
“So, what are you?.
“Pierre challenged.
“Pierre!.
“Tuesday squealed.
He walked over to her. “Tell me.”
My heart warmed for them, but I was saddened for myself. I controlled my emotions while standing there because there was a time in my life when I was that in love with a man, a man who I knew would be my forever; who is now my enemy.
