Page 99 of Broken Souls
Walks back towards me.
My pulse gets faster and faster with every step he takes.
“That scene would be half-right,” he says softly, his gaze sharp and intense. Every inch the predator eying up its prey. “But I’m not just a vampire, Micha.”
Not just…My eyes widen.
“I’m a hybrid.”
My mind blanks as I stare at him.
Then it all fucking slides into place, and utter terror and disgust fill my mind. Screaming, I twist to grab the nearest thing beside me, and I sling it at his face.
Thirty-Four
HIM
I grab the laptop before it breaks across my face, then twist it out of her hands, but the damage is still too fucking crippling.I hoped that at the very least, my little monster would be able to accept me forme. That when she said she loved me, she fucking meant it.
But all she sees is the hybrid.
The abomination.
The monster.
I can see it in her eyes as she glares at me from the other side of the desk. She wants to rip out my organs, to go back in time and kill me as a baby while I was still in Mother’s womb. She wishes she sided with Talon.
Fighting back the urge to throw the laptop I just saved at the wall, I toss it gently onto the sofa.
“I should have fucking killed you!” she spits as she picks up the chair and launches it at me. I dart out of the way, and a loudbangsmashes across the wall behind. “I am going to
kill you!” She yanks open a drawer and grabs a stapler, a box of pens, a pair of scissors. Anything she can throw in the time it takes me to dart out of the way. “Fuck you and fuck this family, and dear fucking gods –”
I launch over the desk just as she opens the drawer where I keep my knives. I must have nearly drained her last night. She won’t survive another feeding this soon if I can’t control myself.
But she doesn’t grab a knife for some reason. Instead, she yanks so hard, she tugs the whole thing free. As I’m in the air, she swings the wooden box at my face like it’s a purse of rocks. “– fuck Maddox, the fuckingpervert!”
I throw up my arms just in time for the drawer to smash into them, splinters breaking off in all directions. I twist as I am knocked to the side. I hit the edge of the desk, then roll off it.
She storms over to me, but before she can kick me in the stomach, I wrap an arm around the back of her leg and roll away from the desk. She falls on top of me, and I keep going until she’s beneath me. She tries to slam her elbow in my face, but I catch it in my hand and shove it back, pinning it to the ground. I do the same with the other one, but she just leans up and tries to bite my nose.
I jerk my head back, and thank gods, my arms are longer than her reach. She hisses at me, her eyes hot with rage. “How many times did he fuck me?”
My head spins. “Who the fuck ishe?”
“Maddox.”
“Maddox?” I’m going to kill the little shit.
“Yeah, you fucking pervert. I figured it out! So which times was it him, huh? Which times did you allow your pervert of a brother to shapeshift into you and take your place between my legs? Dear fucking gods, Varius, I am going to kill –”
Wait. What?“Micha, shut up,” I snap so I can think.
“You did not just tell me to –”
I cup her mouth with one hand, and she screams muffled curses into my palm as she twists her head side to side. But I keep my hand locked firmly on her as I try to make sense of what she’s saying.
“Are you telling me,” I say slowly, “that Maddox has been shapeshifting into me to rape you?”
