“We’re still waiting for news. Come on, you can wait in here with us. Your parents are on their way.” I wait for him to step in before looking over at Carlotta, who’s still fuming in the hall. “Send a nurse in here,” I tell her before slamming the door in her face.
Sandro eyes Sasha. “Do I even want to know?”
“You don’t need to worry about the Fontana family anymore,” he says and then takes a seat, apparently not caring that he’s covered in blood.
“How many did you kill?” I ask.
His light blue eyes meet mine. “All of them.”
Before I can ask anything else, the door opens and Bruno steps in. His body freezes when he sees Sasha. I’ve never seen any of our men look scared, but Bruno is eyeing the blood-soaked man like he’s terrified of him.
In Italian he asks, “He doesn’t speak Italian, right?”
“He doesn’t,” I say.
Bruno refuses to look in Sasha’s direction when he says, “That kid is fucking crazy, boss. He took out all of Fontana’s men, went after them in the woods and tore them down one by one.” He takes a breath beforeadding, “Gio saw him cut out a guy’s heart. I’ve been around violent men my whole life, but there’s something off with this guy.”
“He was upset and worried about his sister,” I say, defending the man I probably shouldn’t have taught how to use a knife.
Bruno is smart enough to not insult me with words, but I see the look he’s giving me, and it’s obvious he thinks there’s more to it than just a brother who’s worried and needed to let off steam.
“Anything else?” I ask him.
Bruno shakes his head, and I watch as one of our most hardened men lets out a sigh of relief when I say, “You can go. I need you to pick up Dominic and Mia’s family from the airport when they arrive.”
“Yes, sir,” he quickly says, refusing to make eye contact with Sasha before he turns around and quickly leaves.
Sandro sighs and shakes his head. “I’m embarrassed for him right now. That was brutal to watch.”
“Sorry I scared your men,” Sasha says, but his tone is flat, and his eyes are still dead when he looks at me. “I couldn’t hide it.”
“It’s okay,” I tell him. “I understand.”
“So, do you want to shower?” Sandro asks.
“No,” Sasha says, and when I look over at Sandro, he raises his brow in awhat the fucklook.
I shake my head, letting him know he should drop it. He does, and the room stays quiet until a nurse walks in. Her eyes widen in surprise when she sees Sasha, but her training quickly kicks in to gear. Walking over, she says, “I need you to come with me so I can take a look at your arm.”
“He doesn’t speak Italian,” I tell her.
She switches to heavily accented English and says, “I need you to come with me.” She points to his arm and the blood-soaked bandage that’s starting to leak. “I need to look at that.”
“I’m fine,” Sasha tells her, but she ignores him.
“I want an X-ray.” She squats down and uses a gloved hand to peek beneath the wrap. “Bullet wound?”
“Yes,” he says.
“We need to make sure it didn’t hit bone and check for internal bleeding.” She eyes the dried blood that’s covering him and adds, “And we need to clean it so you don’t get an infection.”
Standing back up, she looks down at him. The woman is petite, probably late thirties, and I can tell she isn’t thrilled to be handed this job, but she’s also not backing down. “I’m not asking,” she says when he doesn’t budge.
He looks up at her, and I see her take a small step back, but when she doesn’t run for the door, he finally relents and stands. He towers over her, and her self-preservation finally kicks in because she turns to me and asks in Italian, “Am I safe with him?”
“She’s safe, right?” I ask Sasha.
“Yeah, she’s safe.” When he sees my hesitation, he adds, “I’m in control of it now. She’ll be fine.”
