“This is cause for celebration,” Zoe takes my hand, and we walk out, the guys following.

I feel so bad because she lost her husband because of me.

“I know what you’re thinking and you’re wrong,” she tells me as we climb in York’s truck.

I go to say something when all hell breaks loose, and I’m grabbed from behind.

I try to scream but nothing comes out and all I see is blackness.

“Gage, Noah get down. Zoe!”

“I’m good.”

“Plum?”

No answer.

We were getting in the truck when shots were fired—in broad fucking daylight. Pretty ballsy if you ask me.

I grabbed the two boys and threw them behind me and the car. I was looking for the threat, not thinking it could be about Plum.

“She’s gone,” Zoe whispers, though it sounds like screaming in my head.

“What the fuck happened?” Pike comes running out, his secretary on his heels.

“Gage, call Zion and Capone. Do you have cameras?” I ask Pike.

“Sierra, get the footage pulled up. Send it to my phone and then lock up and go home. Call the patients from your house.”

“She won’t be safe. She needs to go to Plum’s,” I point out.

The girl looks scared but nods. Pike sends her the address and she runs off.

“He’s on his way,” Gage says.

“Zoe, you good?” I ask her. She’s crying but in one piece.

“I think so.”

“Drive straight to the house, it’s safer. Sawyer is waiting. Tell him to be ready, he will be needed.” I put the keys in her hand and gently push her to the car, ushering the boys in as well.

“Okay,” she climbs in the driver’s seat.

“Find my mom,” Gage yells at me. He’s holding it together, but I know when he gets to the house he will break down with his dad.

“Your dad will be waiting,” I clasp his shoulder, “I will find your mom.”

I will find her and rain death down on the asshole that took her.

Once the car is gone, I start surveying.

“How many shots?” Pike asks.

“Not sure. I know one guy emptied a clip. I think in that direction,” I point to a shadowed part of the parking lot. We walk to it and find shell casings on the ground. Sloppy.
