“Is everything okay?” a police officer asks.
“No, I want them taken in for trespassing,” I snarl.
“Ma’am, that’s Lyra Cursen.”
“I know who she is, both of them are trespassing,” I state.
“I live here,” Sawyer protests.
“House is in my name. Get out,” I yell.
“Can you please both come with us,” the police officer says escorting them out of the house. I watch as they put them in a cruiser, and it leaves.
“Ma’am, we need your statement,” another police officer, a woman, says. She looks at me with sadness in her eyes.
“Can you get it from my son? He was here. I really need some time.”
“Yes, of course,” she goes to find Gage. As soon as my door is shut, I slide down the wall and cry. This will be all over the news. I know it will and I’ll be the brunt of the joke.
I know Sawyer and I have been distant lately, but I was hoping the trip I was going to surprise him with would have brought us back together. This just doesn’t affect me; this will affect Gage. I can see it now, the looks from the trophy wives in the carpool lane. The whispers behind our backs.
“Mom?”
“Yeah,” I wipe my eyes as he comes in.
“They’re gone, the press too,” he says.
“I’m so sorry, Gage,” I whisper.
“It’s not your fault that dad is a dickhead,” he says.
“Cussing,” I scold. Though I’ll let it go this time.
“From what I heard Aunt Lyra tell the press as she was getting put in the car was that they have been seeing each other for a while,” he says sadly.
“We can’t stay here,” I say.
“But school?”
“We’ll figure it out, but we have to go somewhere where no one knows us,” I say.
“Okay,” he nods.
“Pack what you can. We’ll send for the rest later,” I start pulling out suitcases and then decide to call a locksmith.Sawyer isn’t getting back in here.
I fill three suitcases with clothes and essentials, as well as knick knacks and pictures. The rest will wait.
“I’m ready,” Gage says, taking the bags down to the car.I grab some of my books and join him in the car.
“Where do you think we will go?”
“I don’t know,” I say, pointing the car to the highway and just start driving.

I bang my gavel to start church. Everyone quits talking and all eyes on me.
