“You still going to see her?”
I want to, my dick wants to, but until this is over, I can’t have a distraction.
“I don’t think so,” I tell him.
“You want to,” he calls me out.
“I think it’s best not to, until this gets settled,” I point out to him.
“Bullshit,” he slaps his hand on my desk and walks out.For her safety, I shouldn’t see her. That’s what I keep telling myself all the way to my house. The real reason I don’t want to is that I’m scared.
CHAPTERSEVEN
Plum
I roll out of bed the next morning and shower, dressing before waking up the boys. But it seems they’re already up. I find them in the front room, chowing down on breakfast.
“Mom, Dad, this is Plum.” Noah jumps up when I enter.
“Zoe, and this is my husband, Sly,” the tall woman greets me. I feel very inferior next to her though she doesn’t mean to do so. She’s very pretty.
“Nice to meet you. I hope this was okay. I’m glad that Gage is making friends,” I say as I pour a cup of coffee.
“It’s not a problem,” Zoe says, joining me at the table.
“I should have insisted meeting you yesterday, but I’ve had a lot on my mind lately,” I admit.
“I promise we’re okay with it,” Zoe says. I look to her husband who is leaning up against the wall, a hard look on his face. I’m not sure if it’s because I’m new or he’s just always angry.
“Don’t mind him,” Zoe snorts, “he’s harmless.”
Her husband grins at her and I almost melt. I’ve always wished for a better half that I could always be myself with and it seems Zoe and Sly have that.
“Is Zion coming?” I ask Gator when he sets a plate in front of me. He tenses for a second, if I wasn’t watching I would have missed it.
“I don’t know,” he says, walking away quickly. In fact, most of the men have hard looks on their faces this morning.
“If it’s okay with you, I’d like to take the boys into NOLA,” Zoe says.
“Yeah, sure. I’ll get his card in case he wants something,” I say, getting up to go to the room.
“Don’t worry about it,” she says with a smile.
“Are you sure?”
“I’m sure. When we get back you should come for dinner,” she says, pulling out her phone and telling me to put my number in.
“Thanks,” I say. I never had female friends, or any friends for that matter. I’m so bad at this, but I could see Zoe as a friend.
“I’ll text you our address,” she says, putting her cup on the tray and reaching for her husband. I smile as I watch how he pulls her close. They’re having an intimate moment and I’m intruding.
“Boys,” Sly says. Gage kisses me on the cheek before running off with Noah, leaving me alone.
I’m the only one in the room now and I can’t help but feel alone.Zion said he was coming. Maybe he does regret what we did.
