Page 9 of A Summoned Husband
Massive horns that stretched up from his temples, went back along the sides of his head — covered in slick black hair that shimmered like gasoline puddles — and then pointed forward to deadly tips that stretched out past his face before they jutted up. They were black too, but cracks covered them where they shone from inside. As though they held fire beneath their ebony cover.
He huffed out a breath, his massive chest rising and falling. His exhale carried smoke from his nose as he narrowed his dark, profane eyes and looked right at me.
Panic went through me.
This was a demon, right? It had to be.
We sat around an old ass book that looked sketchy as fuck and put my blood on it. Like some type of whack cult who didn’t have a grain of sense to share between us. And then this thing appeared. This devilish thing.
I screamed.
Grabbing the expensive crystal vase Alicia got me for Christmas off the table by the doorway, I chucked it at him.
It collided with his chest, shattering.
He huffed out another breath, his eyes cast down before he brushed an arm corded with veins and muscles down his chest.
What the fuck?
My eyes searched around. Seeing the abandoned knife on the floor next to Sarika, I grabbed it. I was going to stab him. I had to… right? Holding it out in front of me, I lunged at him.
“Go on! Get!”
What the hell was I doing? Did I think he was a raccoon that got in my trash bins? This was a demon!
That didn’t matter as my eyes dropped to the women around the table. I needed to get him as far away from them as I could.
I lunged again and he took a slow step back off the book and onto my stained rug. His eyes took in the room, but he regarded me as though I wasn’t swinging a knife.
I lunged again.
He — it — I didn’t know what the hell to call him. He took another step back.
That single step felt like he left the room open and relief filled me as I dropped to a crouch. I held the knife out with one hand and wrapped my arm around Alicia, who was the closest to me. I moved her away from the table and toward the hallway.
“Stay there!” I shouted at him.
If he could understand me, he didn’t let me know it. He just looked at me, with cool eyes that sparkled in this weird way I couldn’t make sense of.
“If you take even one step toward them, I will stab you!” I jabbed the knife toward him, hoping he’d get the picture. “Got me?”
Fucking hell… we summoned a demon and if the look on his face was anything to go by, he was going to kill us!

ASMODEUS
Fucking humans.
Of all the beings in all of creation, in all the realms in all the universe, humans were a thorn in my freaking side. If I ever got my hands on the annoying welp who thought it would be humorous to sprinkle this mundane existence with books that contained summoning spells — actual means for these filthy little things to yank us from our realms and here to this squalor — I would rip the spine from them out of their anus.
As though demons didn’t have more important things to do than be pulled to this place.
The havoc they brought upon themselves by daring to summon any demon was their punishment. I only wished it would deter them from ever doing it again.
This puny little thing dared to threaten me. With that little splinter of a tool, likely not even sharp enough to slice through my hide. As though I wanted anything to do with the females strewn about, reeking of what would constitute a drink in this wretched place.
Folding my arms across my chest, I did a slow circle of the room as the only one who managed to keep her wits in my presence continued to drag the unconscious lot away. As though that would keep them safe from me if I wanted to do them harm.
