Jasper’s eyes glowed. “Do you know what these go for?”
“I can imagine.” Outside of succubi and incubi, lust demons were the only ones who could create such things. Pleasure was something everyone wanted, so I could only imagine its worth.
A good orgasm was worth the price tag.
I had no use for them, my hands created a pleasure that made the magic running through these cuffs feel abysmal so handing them over was an easy task.
She held them in her hands, her eyes flashing with lust as her pupils dilated and her cheeks flushed from the mere contact before she released a shaky breath and once again gestured to the stool. “Please. Sit.”
My nod was slow but I took the seat she offered. Based on scent alone, she didn’t seem powerful enough to try to bind me in any way. I banked on knowing I could kill her should she change her demeanour. “What is a ruborae witch?”
“Witches that use confusion to mete their goals.”
“In what way?”
Her lips pursed in thought. “It’s hard to say. They aren’t a well-known witch. Last I heard, they were far and few between. There was a time when other covens sought them out trying to get rid of them. Too afraid of what would happen if a ruborae witch infiltrated their coven. They’re like a worm in your ear. Once they’re in, there is nothing they can’t get you to do.”
My mind returned to the dark corners and all the things I couldn’t remember. “What would they want with a demon?”
Jasper lifted a monocle and held it up to her eye. The lens shimmered with magic. “A lust demon… what wouldn’t they want with you? Their powers combined with the pull of lust. A ruborae witch would become unstoppable.”
The pull of lust and the cloud of confusion. That would be a potent blend.
“And…” I debated whether it was smart to lay my cards out to the witch before me. “What about a married demon?”
Her brows dropped. “A married one?” She shoved off her stool, a finger held up before disappearing behind a row of shelves. There was the sound of things crashing and a breathless oomph before she appeared with a thick book in hand. There were no distinguishing marks on the cover, the soft leather bending as she waved it above her head.
“A lot of demon lore is supposition, especially in the witch community. Because of the…” Her eyes settled on me as she returned to her place behind the counter and cleared her throat. “Bad blood. It’s not exactly like we can trust the knowledge we acquire. Demons wouldn’t willingly tell us anything that could be used against them. However, this book is written by fae.”
I rolled my eyes. No demon would willingly give those pointy earred pain in the asses information about us either.
The excitement on her face told me she didn’t know that. She dropped the book on the counter and flipped it open, quickly leafing through the pages. “Ah! Here!”
My curiosity got the best of me and I leaned in.
Jasper read through the page, her facial expression so open as she processed the information.
I was suddenly annoyed I couldn’t read fae. I’d never ventured to their realms so I wasn’t gifted any of their knowledge or languages.
Her eyes whipped to my chest before they returned to the book and she used her finger to follow the words she was reading. “This can’t be right.”
“What?”
“Well… it says your heart is not in your chest.” Jasper shook her head. She flipped through more entries, brow furrowed in thought. “That can’t be right…”
My hand rubbed at my chest wondering what it would feel like to have something thrumming beneath my flesh. “Go on,” I urged.
Her eyes widened. “You mean—”
“Go on.”
Jasper cleared her throat again. “Okay… I’ll shelve the shock to feel later. Are marriage and mates interchangeable for you guys?”
There was no way for me to know. I was a lust demon and had no business with either.
Until Eden.
Her eyes hovered on my face before she cleared her throat again. “Well, it says here that a mate can command a demon after she is imbued with his key. Imbued…” She stalled over the word before she flipped between pages. “Doesn’t really say what that means. Anyway, it says the commands will become your will once the box is opened. Box?” Jasper’s lip pursed.
