Her lips pressed thin before she released a sigh. “I’m sure you do but that’s not happening. Ever. Never ever!”
“Are you so sure?”
“Yes!” Her voice rose with each statement, her emotions so high they fogged the inside of my chest, stifling the space.
“Why?”
“Because! You’re working some kind of magic on me trying to make me get all horny so I will climb you without thinking twice. But you’re a demon…”
“So I’ve been told,” I teased.
“And ain’t no way I’m having sex with a demon.” She didn’t sound as sure. There was hesitation in her words. They didn’t flow with conviction. She sounded very much like she was trying to convince me just as surely as I knew she was trying to convince herself.
I stood.
She flinched.
The quick movement made me smile knowing it lacked the fear she had before. I took a step toward the kitchen and her hand flew up.
“Hey! Stop.”
My teeth ground in my mouth as my feet stopped, following her command against my will. “Why?” I managed to question her through my annoyance. I hated how effortlessly she commanded me.
“Because…”
“Because?” There it was. That burst of anger. It ignited everything in my chest making the dark parts of me want to stoke the flames. “Why deny yourself the very thing we both know you want?”
“You’re a demon.”
“So you’ve said.”
“And… demons are bad.”
This conversation was getting a little tired. Demons were bad according to these beings who knew absolutely nothing. “Yes. Everything you’ve said about demons so far has been correct, so I can see why you’re sticking to the facts you know,” I replied, voice dry and heavy with sarcasm.
The look she gave me made me stiffen, afraid I poked her a little too hard. “Look…”
I held my breath, waiting.
She huffed out a sigh and hung her head. “I don’t fucking know. I just need time to think about all this. Even if you weren’t a demon, we just met. You’re just some dude who muscled his way into my life, even if that wasn’t what you wanted. You can’t expect me to just spread my legs and guide you in just because you made me feel some type of way in the grocery store.” Her head lifted but she threw it back, baring her neck to me as she stared at the ceiling.
Everything in me heated. Something about seeing her neck like that was…
I wanted to taste that stretch of flesh and see if it was half as sweet as the pool I sucked off the tip of her finger. I wanted to sink my teeth into her skin and see what she tasted like when lust coursed through her.
A groan vibrated my chest.
This was more than a damn spell. I felt it in every fibre of my being.
That witch was beginning to be the bane of my existence, but I couldn’t deny the parts of me thankful for this pairing. Eden was spectacular.
I pushed against the unseen restraints her command bound me in. Here, with her in my sights, I wanted to test the limits of her word. Of the ties that surrounded me when she banished me, keeping me at bay until I wasn’t.
Did she always have to call for me?
“Eden,” I said her name lightly.
Another slow drag of breath left her before she levelled her head on her shoulders and looked at me. Her eyes were tired and I wondered just what it was that wore them out. It could be any number of things but I hated to think I was the sole source of her fatigue.
