Story: Seeing Red
Until the kisses stopped and the woman in front of me dropped her forehead against mine.
“I’m sorry, Noah.”
Stunned, I released her waist and ran a hand over my mouth. “Did you just apologize for kissing me, Red?”
That was new.
She looked at me, her expression pained before she took a step back. Her legs collided with the desk so she couldn’t get far, but the way she shuttered her emotions put more distance between us than space ever could.
“I’m not apologizing for kissing you. Because I wanted to do it. It’s what I’ve wanted to do for a very long time. But I need to be upfront with you.” She raked a hand over her hair again.
“I kissed Greyson,” she confessed. “Imore than kissedhim. I’ve been with him, and I don’t feel like it’s fair for me to sit on that when I’m here with you now.”
Somehow, her words weren’t a surprise. Dread dimmed the giddiness I was feeling until it felt like a heavy weight in my stomach.
She wanted Greyson. That made sense. He wasn’t like me. He could give her more. Be more calculated in the way he took care of her. He already was. Just because he was quiet didn’t mean I was clueless. Greyson adored True.
I swallowed hard, nodding.
“Are you telling me because that’s who you want?”Who you picked? Over me?I didn’t ask those last two questions out loud, but True’s face scrunched as if she’d read my mind.
“No. I wouldn’t have kissed you if I didn’t want you, Noah.”
“Ok…” I didn’t know where this was going, and when my heart got that memo, it decided to make a run for it out of my chest. “So what you saying, Red?”
True stared at me, her eyes wide but unwavering. “I’m saying, what if I want both of you?”
What if I want both of you?
This woman.
The one I told myself was out of my league since the moment I met her, wanted me?
I knew that was the outcome I was hoping for, but I still couldn’t blink when I looked at her, my mind tallying all the things I wanted to say and do in that moment.
“You want both of us? What does that mean?”
True’s brows dipped before she gave me a serious look. “It means I don’t want to choose between the two of you. But I can’t just be with you and not tell you what it is upfront. No secrets. So, this is your chance to run if you don’t want what I want.”
I wanted what she wanted. She had no fucking idea.
I wanted her to have everything she needed. Always.
And if that was me and my best friend, I would give it to her, a million times over.
“It’s okay if you don’t want to do this,” True rushed to say when I was still quiet. “It’s not conventional. And I know everyone isn’t open to sharing. So…”
Her voice subsided while she looked up at me with that wide-eyed stare I was beginning to love.
“I think Greyson is the only man I could share you with,” I answered truthfully.
Relief flooded her gaze as she twisted her lips. “Funny. He said the same thing about you.”
Her words stirred something awake inside of me. Before she showed up, I never knew I was capable of wanting someone who had someone else. But all my fantasies of True hinged on her being Greyson’s too. And to know he wanted the same thing…
My heart constricted and my dick swelled at the thought. Just like that, my body was overwhelmed with just the thought of them being in this with me. Of them wanting this as bad as I did.
I advanced on True, until she had no choice but to sit on the back of the desk I’d just given her. Then I cradled her face in my hands.
