Story: Saving the Pack's Omega
Madden tucks the handgun he has into the waistband of his sweatpants. Did I mention how hot he is? Because he’s hot.
Maybe the blood loss is making me a little delirious.
Madden grips Kane’s shoulders. “You did what you had to. You kept Luna and yourself alive. That’s what matters. Got that?”
Kane opens his mouth like he’s going to protest, but Madden narrows his eyes.
“Only words I wanna hear out of you are ‘got it,’ you did what you had to,” Madden interrupts.
Kane’s shoulders shake with his next deep breath. Next to Madden, he looks even more like the scared boy I imagine he was when his home was last broken into.
I need to take self-defense classes or something. I felt so helpless watching that alpha point a gun at Kane.
Maybe that’s something I can do at the Omega Center when this is all over.
“Got it,” Kane nods.
Madden’s pep talk seems to have grounded Kane enough for him to stand. He heads over to his dresser drawer and pulls out his own handgun.
“We should get Luna out of here. Get her safe,” Kane says.
“Yeah,” Madden says, turning to me and lifting me into his arms.
“Wait, what about the others? We’re not going to leave Chase and Archer here, are we?”
“Chase and Archer can handle themselves,” Madden says. “If they’re after you, then we’ve gotta get you out of here.”
“This is probably that Alpha Niall fucker’s doing,” Kane mutters under his breath as he scans the hallway for any movement.
“That fucker who wanted to buy an omega off the black market could totally get a few dozen mercenaries to do his dirty work,” Madden hisses. He looks down at me, his expression softening. “We’ll get you out of here safely, Angel. You’re safe with us.”
“We’ll get down to the garage. I’ll cover you,” Kane says.
Him and Madden exchange a look that I can’t read before they start quietly down the hallway.
Things are silent. Too silent.
We make it down the stairs and to the kitchen when the bang of another gunshot has my ears ringing. The plaster behind Kane’s head crumbles.
“Go for the garage!” Kane yells, returning fire to the mercenary as he takes cover behind our tipped-over dining table.
Madden starts running, but I twist in his hold, clutching at his shoulder. “No! We can’t leave Kane!”
“We have to!” Madden grunts, throwing open the door to the garage.
Half of it is caved in, probably from one of the explosions I heard earlier, so only Chase’s flashy red sports car is left unscathed.
Madden practically rips open the door before placing me in as gently as he can. The movement still jostles my arm, making a whimper of pain leave my throat.
“Sorry,” Madden winces before making his way to the driver’s side. He has to practically fold his massive body in half in order to fit in the seat. It would be comical in any other situation where we weren’t abandoning the rest of the pack and running for our lives.
The engine roars to life and we’re zooming down the driveway. Instantly, a couple of blacked out cars are on our tail.
“Fuck, there are so many of them,” Madden curses. “I only have one extra mag. Can you check the glove compartment? See if there’s any extra ammo?”
I do as he instructs, opening the glove compartment in front of me. There’s only the driver’s manual and a couple condoms.
“I—I don’t see any!”
