Page 106 of Ruled Out
“Don’t get too down on yourself, Cap.”
Picking his head back up, Jon looks at Zach, who’s busy watching Luna. “Why?”
“Well, we kind of had a change in plans. We’re still getting married in the Caribbean, but we want you all to be there.” Luna pauses and looks at Jon. “Our planner hasn’t been that great, to be honest. Look, we know it’s last minute, but we were wondering if?—”
“Yep,” Jon announces, slapping the table hard with a hand. “I will be your planner. Abso-fucking-lutely. One hundred percent.”
“For fuck’s sake,” Jack repeats, dropping his head to his forearm. “The guys on the team are never going to hear the end of this.”
I’m still laughing when Mia nudges out from under my shoulder.
“I’m heading to the restroom.”
I wrap a hand around her upper arm, my eyes flicking to Leo, who’s busy talking with his friend. “You want me to come with you?”
She shakes her head and knits her brows together. “I’m literally fifty feet away. Stay with the group and celebrate tonight’s win.”
When Jon and Felicity stand to let her out of the booth, I can’t tear my eyes away from my girlfriend as she saunters overto the restrooms, her perfect ass swaying under tonight’s red miniskirt.
When Mia disappears down the hallway, my eyes momentarily land on Leo, and I don’t know if I’m seeing things, but I swear I see his gaze flick from mine and back to his friend when he notices I’m watching.
Staring down into my soda, I feel the way my molars grind together.
He doesn’t even get to look at her.
“Go,” Jensen says, giving me another sharp kick under the table.
Twisting around, I watch as Leo gets up from the booth.
“Oh, hell fucking no,” I announce, already ushering Jon and Felicity out of the way as Jensen chuckles from behind.
“Play nice, Jessie,” Zach calls after me.
But I’m gone, already halfway to the restrooms, zeroed in on the back of Leo’s head.
MIA
“Oh, yeah, convenient bathroom break.” Jessie’s boom echoes down the dark hallway to my left as I step out of the restroom.
I walk toward the voices, and they come into view a second later.
“What’s going on?” I ask, coming to stand by Jessie’s side.
He nods at Leo, who’s standing a few feet in front of us, his back to the emergency exit. “Why can’t you just take a hint?”
Leo scoffs. “I was heading to the bathroom.”
“Like hell you were,” Jessie says, leaning down to whisper in my ear. “Go back to the group. I’ll be there in a second, Sweetheart.”
I wrap my hand around his thick forearm, pulling him away. “Just come back with me. Ignore him.”
As he crosses his arms over his chest, a mock smile paints Leo’s face. “Yeah, probably best not to hurt Graham’s top defenseman.”
I turn back to him. “You mean my dad hasn’t kicked you off his program yet?”
He snarls, “That’s between me and your daddy, nothing privileged bitches like you need to worry about.”
Jessie lurches forward and out of my grasp, his right fist balled at his side. “Whatthe fuckdid you just say to my girl?”
