Story: Relentless Oath
She was testing my patience.
I’d put all my meetings and phone calls on hold because she made it hard for me to even think. What was she doing with Jonathan last night?
When I saw the two of them together, I didn’t know what came over me. It was the next day and I still felt the need to hunt him down and turn him into a eunuch. I was pissed and wanted to stab or shoot someone, Jonathan preferably.
My breathing was rough. I had to calm down. When my phone rang and it was Joseph on the line, I found myself still angry. I needed to relax. I didn’t want to talk to anyone.
“What is it?” I growled into the phone.
“It’s about Mya, sir.”
Of course, it was. Everything was about Mya. My every waking thought was of her, yet she would betray me in a second.
She didn’t deserve my loyalty or my patience. If it weren’t for the baby, I would have walked her straight out the door…at least that’s what I told myself.
I told myself that I wouldn’t miss the way her eyes seemed to light up when she saw something she enjoyed. Shit, even the way she yelled at me had grown on me.
She wasn’t a pushover. She was strong, decisive, and didn’t care about the consequences as long as she got what she wanted.
I respected that. I would never tell her that, though.
“What’s Mya gotten herself into now?”
“There was a note left for her in the car.”
“What? From who?”
“According to the footage Ivan just sent me, it was from Matteo.”
My blood felt like it ran cold in rage. I could barely speak. “And how did it get there?”
“No clue.”
I hung up. I was done talking. It was clearly an inside job. Either Joseph was lying or Ivan was lying. Either way, I would keep them close.
It was clear now that one or the other was involved in feeding information to Mya, but I had no proof. I’d kept a close eye on Ivan ever since the yacht, but he hadn’t done anything out of the ordinary.
There weren’t any late-night phone calls. He was always at his post.
I was having him tailed when he wasn’t on duty, but I still found nothing. I’d done the same to Joseph, and he was also clean, as far as I could tell.
But Matteo wasn’t smart enough to do all this alone. There was no way. Either Ivan or Jonathan was helping him.
There was no one else in my organization able to get close enough without me noticing.
I would deal with that matter later. For now, I needed to deal with Matteo and Nico.
I called Joseph back and said, “Do Matteo and Nico still meet for poker at Tito’s on Friday night?”
“They do.”
“Then I guess we’ll be at Tito’s tomorrow.”
The silence on the other end made me sure that Joseph thought I was losing my mind.
I was done playing games. I would show up at Tito’s tomorrow and finish what they’d started. I wanted to make them bleed.
They would plead for their lives. I’d had enough. It was time to end it all.
