Story: Home Safe
Hey there. How’s your day going?
I apologize if I’m supposed to be playing it cool and not contacting you 15 hours after our first date ended.
But I’m not really interested in playing it cool in case that wasn’t obvious.
Please note that I use voice to text a lot so if my message ever reads weird blame it on the technology.
I’ll stop blitz texting you and give you a chance to respond.
ME
Hey there.
The day is good so far. Jason was a little sassier than usual this morning after being so out of routine last night, but nothing terrible. We’re getting ready to go to the store to stock up on some groceries before the snow storm Tuesday. And then he’s planning to teach me that card game this afternoon. What about you? What do you typically do on Sundays during the offseason?
GRIFFIN
Well typically I work out at home, do something to have fun or relax, and then walk through my schedule for the week with Sam.
But today I’ve mostly just been thinking about you. Wondering what your impression of our date was. Thinking about the things I still want to know about you that I didn’t have time to ask about last night.
ME
More questions, huh?
GRIFFIN
Endless questions.
ME
Like what?
GRIFFIN
Like what’s your favorite book? Do you ever watch movies or only read? What do your days in the library look like? What’s your favorite season and why? What’s been the hardest and the best parts of life with Jason so far? Do you have a favorite flower? Why do you hate baseball so much…
ME
Ha! All of those questions were providing cover for the final one.
GRIFFIN
Not true. I want to know the answers to all of them. And a hundred more. I would go on listing them out, but you haven’t actually answered any of them yet.
ME
I’ll answer one each day. But only if you also answer one of my questions too.
GRIFFIN
Deal.
ME
My favorite season is winter because I like having a built-in excuse to stay home and be cozy. No one questions why you won’t go out and do things during the winter. Curling up with a book, a fluffy blanket, and a warm drink on the weekends is socially acceptable.
