Story: Her Valiant Heart
Dammit! You’re hellbent on seducing a guy and he thinks you’re…adorable.
His eyes flicked down my body, something flashing in them so quickly it was gone before I could catch it. “I think I need a drink.”
Surprised by the sudden change in him, I trailed after him hesitantly. Watched as he went to a cabinet behind the desk and poured himself a drink. “You want one?” He asked, keeping his back to me.
“No, thanks.” God, I wasn’t sure I could do this. There was a small part of me that wanted to run for the door, to not risk what I was about to risk.
With his whiskey glass in hand, Wolfe came around to the front of the desk, leaning against it. Then he just stood there. Watching me. Not saying a goddamn word. The longer he looked at me, the more nervous and unsure I became. Until I just burst out, “I want you to fuck me.” His spine snapped straight, and he almost dropped the whiskey glass. I acknowledged a little thrill at knowing I’d surprised him. It made me bold enough to go on, to head off any arguments Wolfe was about to make. Raising my chin, I said, “I have my reasons.”
He relaxed against the edge of the desk again, waving his glass at me in encouragement. “Let’s hear them, then.”
Because I didn’t want to bring the kids into this right now, I began with, “My life is set up in such a way that having long-term relationships is difficult. I’m not a virgin, but yeah, I don’t get the chance to date much. These two weekends, my birthday and today, are very rare opportunities for me and I don’t know when I’ll get another one. So, yeah, it’s tonight, or it’s nothing, for me. For you…” Fuck, how could I sell this? “I know you can have anyone you want whenever you want. I don’t know how that generally plays out for you, but I can guarantee that I’m low maintenance. I won’t be making any demands on you after this. I don’t want your money and I don’t want a relationship. So yeah, just one night of fun for both of us.”
He watched me for a long moment, then said, “It’s a convincing pitch. Maybe I should hire you for my sales team.”
My heart thudded heavily. Was that a yes?
“Come here.”
I stepped forward, feeling my chest tighten with anticipation. When I was close enough, he slid his hand into my hair, cupping the back of my head. His hazel eyes were inscrutable as they roved over my face, but the flecks of gold seemed brighter, more intense. I returned his gaze as openly as I could, not sure what he was looking for. Why was he hesitating? “I’m not a child.”
“Oh, I know that. Believe me.” He slowly lowered his head, brushing his lips gently across mine. Teasing. Still hesitating. I leaned in, resting my hands lightly on his chest, wanting him to deepen the kiss, to slide his tongue across mine, to drive me wild.
Even when he did finally deepen it, his kiss was unbearably polite. Restrained. That’s not what I came here for. I let out a little huff of frustration and he raised his head, looking down at me with one eyebrow raised. “Is there a problem?”
“No.” Liar. Just say it. “You’re being very polite. I want…” God, what exactly did I want?
“How many men have you been with?”
“Two.” Blunt question, blunt answer. “I mean, not that they were really men.”
He raised a brow in inquiry.
“Boys. I mean they weren’t really men because they were boys, not like, octopi or something.” What. The. Fuck?
He burst out laughing. “Just to reassure you, when you said they weren’t really men, my mind did not immediately jump to kinky, octopus tentacle sex. But also, whatever floats your boat.”
I rolled my eyes and smiled, despite my blush.
Wolfe pulled me close, one hand curling around the back of my neck, the other sliding down to grip my hip. “Just so you know, I would have fucked you without the hard sell.”
Oh.
“You have no idea how much I’ve thought about you. About having you.” Then he kissed me. Properly this time. Hungry and demanding, stoking the embers of arousal in my belly into flames.
I moaned against his mouth, pressing myself flush against him. My fingers twisted in his dark hair, nails scraping his scalp. He growled in response; the sound sending a thrill down my spine. His hand slid from my hip to grip my ass, squeezing roughly, making me gasp, desire flooding my veins like liquid fire.
I clung to him desperately, craving more of this scorching heat. “I’ve thought about this so much, too. Imagined…”
“Tell me.” His voice was a low rumble I felt deep in my belly.
“Being with you,” I admitted, my cheeks flushing hot. “Giving myself up to you, letting you control me. And you… Not letting me come, making me wait for it…Until…”
He raised his head slightly, his eyes wide with surprise. “You want me to edge you, Esme? That’s intense.” His voice was rough.
God, I was on fire already and we hadn’t even started. “Yes, that’s what I want. I just want to forget everything except you and what you’re doing to me. I want you to make me lose myself in you.”
“If you’re sure…” His gaze bore into mine, searching for any hint of doubt.
