Story: Euphoria
“Again, I’d need to give her a pay rise.”
Morgan twisted around. “Do you really think it’s wise to go ahead with the tour?” Her face turned serious.
Alex considered her question before saying, “I don’t know. But if I cancel, whoever is doing this wins, don’t they?”
“I don’t think they do. I think whoever it is, is someone deeply disturbed and potentially could do what they say they will, and I’m not ready to lose you like that.” She glanced downbefore her eyes shot back up and stared into Alex’s. “I’m not ready to lose you at all.”
“Well, I’ve no intention of going anywhere.” The intensity between them was always there, wasn’t it? “Come here.” Alex reached around Morgan’s neck and pulled her closer, until their mouths almost met, lips brushing against each other. “I’m falling for you. You know that don’t you?”
Morgan nodded. She did know that. It had been alluded to out loud, but not anything tangible, until now. The gap between them closed, and all that mattered in that moment was closeness. A need to be one. Slow and languid, there was no rush, not in this bubble they’d created. When it came to an end, Morgan sat up.
“You wrote me a song.” They kissed again.
Breaking the kiss, Alex stared at her for a long time. Could it really be this easy, to fall for someone so deeply?
“I had to, I just feel it. When I’m with you, there’s this…it’s like I’m in a Disney movie and you’re this Cinderella character, and with every move you make there’s music.”
Morgan’s eyes widened with every word. “Nobody has ever…I can’t explain what it feels like.” She touched her chest. “In here, listening to something you composed because of me.”
“I find every time I sit at the piano to write…all I feel, is you.”
“Alex,” Morgan said breathlessly.
Alex got serious. “So, if you want me to cancel—”
“No, I want you to do what you want to do. I just don’t want you to feel forced into cancelling, that you have to do it because of some idealist notion that it’s the right thing to do, andequally, I don’t want you to feel forced into continuing because you feel like you should. This has to be something you decide.”
“What I want to do right now is just switch off from it all and feel something real.”
Morgan smirked. “I can help with that.”
“Can you? How?”
Kicking the covers away, Morgan edged down the bed. “Why don’t I show you?”
Chapter Forty-Six
Alex sighed at the question. She’d already spent an hour with the police giving pointless statements. She knew nothing that would help right now.
The early headlines had certainly been expansive. It was front page news on most of them, and the tabloids had gone to town, over-exaggerating and publishing pictures of people in white suits and booties checking out the scene. And of course, there was a picture of the bloody coach. Alex hadn’t looked at any of them.
“I’m sorry, can you repeat the question?” she said, hoping he’d take the opportunity to change it. A press conference had been quickly assembled once it had become clear it wasn’t going to be a story that disappeared.
A man in his thirties with a stubbled chin and thick-rimmed black glasses stood up again. “Yes, of course, I was asking if your new relationship had any bearing on this?”
Alex took a moment before she said, “I would imagine that whatever is happening or not in my private life, has no bearing on the mind of anyone who would do this.”
“Do you have a message for those people who were injured last night?” a balding man in a ruffled suit asked.
“Obviously, I hope they’re all okay. I am sure they feel quite shaken by it all. I have asked for the names of all of them and will be making sure they are all alright.”
“Who do you think is behind it all? A jealous—” He was cut off.
“That’s all for now. Thank you all for your concern. As you can see, and report, Sasha is perfectly fine,” Francine interrupted.
“So, you’re continuing the tour?” A woman this time, all smiling eyes and high cheekbones, quickly shouted out in hope of an answer.
“Absolutely,” Alex said before standing and heading away from the lights and microphones. Cameras clicked away, flash bulbs blinding her as she moved through the small gathering and out of the room.
