Story: Euphoria
Morgan nodded again. “I can understand that. It’s difficult to keep opening up over and over.” She knew from her own experiences, there came a time when you needed a break from it.
“Maybe she’d listen to you.” Francine’s raised brow insinuated something more than her words said.
“What makes you think that?”
Francine smirked. “She likes you.”
“She likes you too,” Morgan countered, feeling a little under pressure with the remark.
“Yeah, well, I’m not her type.” Francine winked.
“And because I am, she will listen to me?” She glanced up at Alex, lost in the music. “I doubt it. She’s pretty stubborn when she wants to be.”
“Don’t I know it.” Francine grinned as the music changed pace, and Alex launched into something uplifting. “Just try, okay?”
“If a situation arises to bring it up, I’ll do my best, but I’m here to make sure she doesn’t physically hurt herself. And I’m hoping that I’ll be getting paid to do absolutely nothing more moving forward.”
“Yes, let’s hope so,” Francine replied. “Oh, I meant to give you these.” She delved into her bag and pulled out an envelope. “Alex said you wanted them.”
When Morgan took the envelope, Francine got up and walked away. Sliding her finger under the flap, Morgan eased the paper free and looked inside.
Two tickets for Taylor Swift.
“How’s your friend?” Morgan asked.
Alex had her back against the pillows again as she rested before Nancy and Gert would arrive and transform them both. Morgan’s head lay in her lap, Alex’s fingers threading throughdark locks. Morgan sighed contentedly at the ease of which they enjoyed each other’s company like this.
“Which one?” Alex asked.
“The superstar American singer on tour,” Morgan said. “Do you really know her?”
Alex smiled to herself. “I’ve met her. I wouldn’t say that I know her, but my people know her people and the tickets were easy enough.”
Morgan kissed the bare thigh closest to her lips. “Thank you.” She lay there silently for a moment before adding, “And how’s your other friend, the anonymous one?”
Alex chuckled. “I see it’s hit a nerve.”
“No, just making conversation,” Morgan responded, lifting her head from where it rested to lay against Alex’s chest.
“Well, I haven’t heard from her, so I don’t know.” Alex ran a hand through Morgan’s curls again. “How’s your friend?”
“Zoe?”
“Yes, the cat sitter.”
“She’s okay. Still pestering for information about us.” Morgan chuckled before adding, “I’m not jealous.”
“About Zoe?”
“No, your friend. I’m not jealous, I’m curious, and I don’t know but my gut is gurgling about it. Something doesn’t feel right about not knowing who someone is, and I know that’s ridiculous. I don’t know her or what you’ve discussed, I just—”
“Feel off about it?”
“Yeah. Just be careful, there are a lot of weird people out there.”
Alex wiggled down the bed and wrapped her arms around Morgan’s shoulders. “Thank you for looking out for me.”
Looking up at her, Morgan said, “I care about you.”
