Story: Euphoria
“You’re worth it, and I can afford it.”
“You can?” Alex smiled.
“Yes, I got this really cushy job that pays me a huge amount of money to pretty much sit around doing nothing.”
“Sounds like a perfect gig?”
“It is. I’m kind of enjoying it too.” Morgan grinned.
“Lots of perks?”
Morgan shrugged. “I guess so.” She reached for the scarf and wrapped it around her wrist. “Does it suit me?”
“Looks perfect.” Alex smirked. “Is it a gift for me, or you?”
“I was thinking both of us.”
There was a knock at the door. A doubletap, tap. Mack with dinner.
“Let’s eat, I’m actually starving.” Alex stood up and reached her hand down for Morgan, who took it and allowed herself to be pulled up, landing chest to chest with her lover. “I have a feeling we’re going to need the calories.”
“I have a feeling I’m going to need to go on a diet when I get home.” Morgan grinned when the aroma hit her senses. “I don’t think I’ve ever eaten this much.”
“Is it too much?” Alex asked. “I’ve always skipped lunch and gone all out at dinner, but if you need something—”
“It’s fine. I’m not complaining. When I’m on shift, I’m lucky if I manage to shove half a sandwich in before I’m needed to check on a patient. A banana in my pocket is generally my go-to. Sometimes, it will be someone’s birthday and I might grab a cupcake.”
“Sounds truly awful.” Alex smiled. “How do you survive like that?”
Morgan shrugged. “I guess it becomes normal.”
“Well, let’s make the most of it then.” She lifted the lid from the plate and pushed it across the table towards Morgan. “And then I was thinking we could go down and enjoy the spa?”
“Together?” Morgan asked, picking up her cutlery.
“Yes, I think it would do us both the world of good. I rarely get to enjoy the things hotels offer. Honestly, I don’t know why Francine books them, it’s a complete waste of money.” She smiled. “But I do get to enjoy some semblance of privacy, so I suppose it’s worth it.”
“Don’t fancy slumming it then?”
“I’m not above slumming it.” She looked around the room. “But I guess I am a creature of comfort, and while I can afford it, I think I should just enjoy it.”
“Well, I for one, would love to spend the rest of the evening getting wet with you.” Morgan smirked.
Chapter Fifty-Six
The pool area was just as beautiful as the rest of the hotel. Lots of glass windows in the ceiling allowed sunlight in during the day but at almost 9 p.m., it gave the area a more relaxed feel. Loungers lined the entire wall of one side of the room, with others dotted between huge pot plants that allowed a minimal amount of privacy.
Morgan chose those as the position to dump their bag and towels. On the opposite side of the pool was a jacuzzi. Two women sat together with champagne flutes in hand, chatting and laughing quietly. The pool itself was empty except for one man powering back and forth, head down, goggles steaming up. He managed five lengths while they settled and peeled off their robes.
It was warm, and music played softly through the speakers. Some kind of spa-sounding vibe meant to relax and quiet the mind.
“This is lovely,” Alex said.
“Isn’t it?” Morgan agreed, dropping her robe to the lounger. “Coming in?” she beckoned, stepping backwards until she was on the edge of the pool. With a grin, she closed her eyes, pinched her nose, and took another step, disappearing as she dropped into the deep end. She reappeared a moment later, pushing her mane from her face, as one arm half pulled her up and rested along the edge. “It’s so warm in here. Like a bath.”
“Don’t worry, I’m coming.” Alex smiled at her. “But I’m walking in.” She chuckled and made her way around the side of the pool slowly so as not to slip and injure her ankle again. The two women in the jacuzzi suddenly stopped talking as they realised who she was. She smiled at them but continued on until she reached the walk-in steps.
Morgan had swum over and was treading water, waiting.
