Story: Euphoria
Alex didn’t have an answer. “I’ll understand if this isn’t something you can do anymore,” she said before backing away.
“I’ll be ready in ten minutes.”
Alex considered something. “Why don’t you stay here, and if I need you, I’ll send Mike to get you.” She tried to smile.“I’m only going to be doing interviews and preparing for the recital. It will be very boring, and you can enjoy the hotel.”
“Won’t Francine have something to say about that?”
“I’m sure she will, but at the end of the day I make the decisions, and for now, I think I’ll be fine.”
“Okay then.” Morgan smiled and watched as Alex opened the door and left her to get dressed.
Chapter Twenty-One
And nothing more was said…
When Alex returned from the show, it was late, and Morgan was nowhere to be seen, her bedroom door firmly closed.
Pouring herself a drink, Alex swigged it down quickly, trying to douse the impact of euphoria that raced through her system again. She’d gone to the after-show party, something she didn’t usually do for more than a few minutes to say hello and network as required with the few celebrity faces she liked, while the crew got stuck into taking things apart and ready for moving them on the following day.
This time, she’d tried to dance it out for a while, but every sinew in her body ached for the one thing she couldn’t allow herself to have – not that it stopped her mind from wandering and her body from punishing her with its insistent pounding between her legs to be attended to.
She sank another shot and slammed the glass down, stalking quickly across the room, her clenched fist raised and ready to knock on Morgan’s door and plead to be allowed to worship her once again, but she stopped herself. That kind of mixed message was not going to be helpful to anyone.
Her arm dropped to her side, and she rested her forehead against the door.
“I wish this was different,” she whispered. “I wish I could just—” She sighed and straightened up, turning to face her own room and the lonely bed that awaited.
There was too much at stake.
From her bed, Morgan lay on her side, curled up with her hands under her cheek, facing the door and staring intently at the light under the door and the shadow of someone. She assumed, and hoped, it was Alex standing on the other side.
She willed her to open the door and for Alex to step inside, ready to make a plea to be allowed to climb onto the bed and under the covers beside her. Wanting Alex to touch her again, like she did the previous night.
It didn’t happen. Moments later, the light switched off, and Morgan fell back against the mattress, staring up into the darkness of the room until her eyes adjusted again.
She’d spent all night waiting. Hoping for a call, not because Alex was unwell, she didn’t wish that at all, but somewhere deep inside, her romantic nature wanted to be called upon. Imagining Alex introducing her to all of her famous friends.
“This is my girlfriend, Dr Morgan Kelly,” she’d heard in her head over and over as she imagined different scenarios in a world where Alex wanted her. It was ridiculous, she knew that, but still, it had helped ease off the sexual tension she’d been edging all day.
She rolled back onto her side and thumped the pillow.
“Why can’t it just be simple,” she whispered into the darkness. She reached out for her phone, squinting at the screen when it lit up to reveal the time and a message that had come through while it had been set to silent.
Zoe: Just checking in. Knight is fine. How’s things with you?
“Pretty crappy, Zo, but I can’t tell you that right now, so…” She quickly typed a reply.
Morgan: Hey, all good thanks. Glad Knight is enjoying his holiday!
Surprisingly, the message ticks turned blue before she’d put the phone down. Zoe’s typing flashed at the top of the screen.
Zoe: Ooo you’re still awake. Been out partying?
Morgan: No, early night actually. I just woke up and checked the time and saw you’d messaged.
Zoe: Ah, shame. I was hoping you’d be drunk, and I’d get it out of you who you’re working for. ??
Morgan: Bad Luck, Duck. ?? Right, I need to get to sleep.
