Story: Euphoria
“Is there a problem?” Francine asked again with a firmness that was quite intimidating.
“Well, no, I guess not.” It was polite to at least ask, wasn’t it? “So, now you need me for twenty-four nights?”
“Yes, again, is there a problem?”
Morgan sighed. “No, I just have things I need to organise, like my cat sitter thinking I’ll be back in sixteen nights.”
There was a commotion in the background of wherever Francine was. “Listen, I’m sure you can get it organised, right? It’s no big deal.” Her voice went muffled as she covered the phone and spoke to someone else. “Anything else?”
“Yes. Am I expected to go everywhere with Alex? Dinner, sightseeing?”
Francine laughed loudly. “My dear, there won’t be time for sightseeing.”
Morgan puffed out her cheeks. “So, just casual stuff then?”
“I’m coming,” Francine shouted at whoever was trying to gain her attention. “Pack something nice. We eat in the suite most nights but sometimes…pack something sexy. Oh, and I need a photo for your ID. Email me one, please. I gotta go.”
And with that she hung up.
Morgan pulled the dresses out of her wardrobe and laid them down on the bed.
Where they sexy enough?
And then another thought struck her: Shoes. She couldn’t wear any of these dresses with the trainers and brogues she planned to take. Delving down into the bottom of the wardrobe, she found the pair of black heels that would work. Black went with everything, didn’t it? Into the case those wenttoo. Make-up bag, washbag, couple of books to read, phone charger. By the time she was finished and the case zipped up, she could barely lift it; thank goodness it had wheels.
Chapter Fourteen
The day that changed it all…
Ten o’clock on the dot the following morning, Morgan’s doorbell rang. She answered the intercom and heard a man’s voice. It was soft with just a hint of an accent. Irish, she thought.
“Car pickup for Dr Kelly.”
“I’ll be right down, thank you.”
She took one last look at herself in the mirror. She’d gone with smart casual, pulling on a pair of grey slacks with a white blouse that billowed somewhat, but she liked it. She’d kept her hair simple, tying it back into a ponytail, but nothing would control the escaping tendrils that wisped out here and there. Her make-up was light, but slightly more than usual when she was at real work. She figured she could get away with a little more while on tour with Sasha.
She took one last look around to make sure she had everything she would need. Everything was switched off, and it felt eerily silent.
Zoe had picked up Knight an hour ago, and after one last attempt to find out who she would be working for, she’d given up and sulked her way back to her flat for a teams meeting that was planned, and she needed to prepare for. Knight glared at her from under Zoe’s arm. How dare she go off and leave him to be pampered by his other favourite person?
Pulling her leather jacket on, she dragged the heavy case on its wheels behind her along the corridor, down in the lift and out into the world to start this new adventure.
“Dr Kelly, I’m Mike. I’ll be your driver this morning.” The same voice from the call up. A smart-looking man in a suit stepped up and took her case from her.
“Hi Mike, thank you.”
He smiled and took several steps towards the large vehicle with its blacked-out windows and opened the door for her.
Morgan glanced up at her flat above before she got in and settled herself on the white leather seats. It wasn’t a limousine like the one she’d been in for a friend’s birthday years ago, but it was just as flash with extending legroom and a small cupboard to the side.
“Please help yourself to anything in the fridge,” Mike said, as if he’d just read her mind.
She laughed to herself. This was wild, wasn’t it? She could just imagine Zoe’s face if she was here. She snapped a pic on her phone and sent it to her friend.
The sound of the boot closing was quickly followed by the driver’s door opening and then the dark window between them slid down. Mike smiled at her, his hat now off his head to reveal a receding hairline.
“Make yourself comfortable. If you need anything, there’s a button to your left, just press that and you can speak to me. Otherwise, sit back and enjoy the drive.”
