Story: Euphoria
“I am. I’m just replying to a friend. She messaged the other day, and I hadn’t had a chance till now.”
“Oh, a friend?” Morgan teased. “Just a friend?”
“Yes, just a friend.” Alex glanced up at her.
Coming over to the bed, Morgan perched on the edge. “So, do they have a name?”
Alex put the phone down and paused for a moment. “I’m sure she does.”
“That sounds very cryptic and not at all transparent. I’ve told you about Zoe when she’s texted me about Knight,” Morgan said, feeling a little vulnerable.
Frowning, Alex considered that. “Yes, I guess it does sound odd. The thing is…” She grimaced. “I don’t actually know her name. I don’t know for sure she’s a she either, but I think she is, and if that’s the case, she’s gay too.”
“That makes no sense.”
“I know.” Alex smiled. Picking up the phone, she unlocked it and held it out for Morgan to read if she wanted to.
She didn’t.
“I trust you, and I respect your privacy.”
Alex locked the phone again and put it down on the bedside shelf. “Thank you.”
Morgan waited a beat and when nothing further came, she asked, “So, are you going to explain?”
Alex chuckled. “It’s silly really, but it was a wrong number weeks ago. Somehow, we just kept talking. I guess, I like it that I can be me. Anonymous. We haven’t asked each other our names, and it’s never come up. Randomly, we will message each other and see how we’re doing.”
“And that doesn’t seem odd to you?”
“No, why would it? It was just a random wrong number.”
“Single?” Morgan probed as she stood up and began to undress.
Alex watched the little show she was putting on. “Yes, although that was how we started talking. Her date had given her a wrong number, my number. She was texting to ask why she hadn’t heard from them.”
Unhooking her bra, Morgan turned to face her. “So, a gay single woman just happened to message your number, out of all the millions of numbers out there, another gay, single, famous woman whose number I assume isn’t public?”
“Of course it isn’t public, can you imagine?” Alex laughed before becoming more serious. “Leave those on,” she demanded when Morgan went to remove her knickers.
“Why?”
“I like it.”
“You’re going to sleep, while I take a shower.”
“But I’m not sleepy now.” Alex pouted at Morgan as she neared the bed and reached out for her, fingertips gliding up the side of Morgan’s thigh.
“I still need to shower.” Morgan grinned, bending down to kiss her. “Unless that’s another kink of yours.”
“No, I think I can wait…but maybe put a clean pair back on?”
“You are incorrigible.”
“And you are sexy and beautiful. Is it my fault if I can’t keep my hands off of you?” Alex grinned at the retreating back. She picked up her phone again.
Alex: So, I was thinking. Should we not know each other’s names by now?
