Story: Deadly Games
Rosie nods. “I can’t believe this is happening.”
“It will be okay,” I assure her.
“I wonder what happened?” CJ mumbles, still looking at the mute screen.
“You don’t think it has anything to do with ‘the case’, do you? I know she had to give a statement against Dick One and Dick Two to get out of her own charges…” Allie mentions, trailing off, seeming lost in thought.
“Nah. The girl was a bitch, no doubt, but no one deserves to die like that,” CJ tells her.
“She probably bit off more than she could chew with some guy.” Alex shrugs, picking at his torn jeans.
“Yeah…” Allie agrees, staring at the screen like the answers are going to pop out spontaneously.
“I’ll see if I can find anything out after I leave here,” Jordan tells us.
“Me too,” Allie announces. “I want to catch who did this. It will be good for the real-life story I have to write in my Creative Writing class. This would be perfect.”
“How many times do I have to tell you that you’re not really Cat-woman? You’re not Veronica Mars, ready to take down some evil motherfucker. You’re going to stay wrapped in cotton wool, safe, where I can see you at all times,” CJ tells her, kissing her quickly before she can pull away.
“I don’t think so, mister. And it was you who said Veronica Mars is hot,” she reminds him.
“She is. It doesn’t mean I want my girlfriend to be her.” He snorts.
“Say girlfriend again. It sounds dirty,” she teases, trying to distract him.
“Girlfriend,” he rasps out, then shakes his head, narrowing his eyes on her. “I know what you’re doing and it’s not going to work.”
“It just did,” Allie points out, smirking.
“Yeah, well… Fuck! You’re not getting involved,” he warns her.
“We’ll see, lover boy. We’ll see.” She grins evilly, sending me a wink. I shake my head at their antics. Let’s hope that CJ realises sooner rather than later that when Allie has her mind set on something, there’s no going back.
I just hope she doesn’t get caught in the crossfire.
After all, we don’t know if this was just a violent outburst or if someone was out to murder Christie.
My stomach turns, twisting up in knots. I have a bad feeling about this, and my intuition hasn’t been wrong so far.
Oh God, what will Allie be walking into?
