“What the hell do you want? Get the fuck away from him.”

Rex’s voice pulls me out of the prayer to my favorite angel.

A voice I recognize as Kai responds, “I just wanted to know what the plan was here. Your father says we follow Har, and we need to be clued in.”

“His name is Harlyn.”

His lip is curled at Kai when I look over. “And we don’t even need you here.”

“Okay you fucking asshole, we brought men with us as well that depend on us to tell them what the hell is going on once we enter that building. I didn’t want any problems coming over here. We are staying and that’s that. So, you’re either gonna tell me or send us in there blind.”

I interrupt before Rex has a chance to crush Kai using only his arm. They’re that big. “Kill anyone without a collar. Make it hurt if they have a scar across their face. Help anyone collared. That’s it.”

I look at him with a dead expression.

“And Marcus himself?”

Whatever he sees on my face makes him cringe and I turn away. I don’t give a fuck about his feelings or anyone else’s because nobody gave a damn about mine.

“I’m ready,”

I tell Rex on a deep breath.

“I’ve got you.”

A closed lip grin curls my lips when I roll my eyes because I already knew that.

Pressing the button on my ear piece I connect with Lane. “Take the gate down.”

“On it.”

The compound is surrounded by an electric powered gate and Lanes been tasked with shutting it off among other things. “Done, pretty.”

My eyes roll impossibly further when the surrounding men chuckle like teens because everyone can hear Lane from their ear pieces.

“What’s so funny?”

Shaide. I think. I don’t know, it’s been so long. Either way I contain a scoff.

Asher, a guy who works for Rex responds, “Our tech guy Lane,”

he taps his ear piece for extra measure, “is flirting with Harlyn and we can all hear it.”

Laughter sounds around the area again and my cheeks heat as they continue to tease me.

I’m done Pretty.

Let me show you how to work a computer Pretty.

Don’t worry your little head about that, I got it Pretty.

Come on Pretty.

“Okay, okay, think we get it now.”

I glare at everyone, and they stifle their chuckles.

I’ve become somewhat of a friend to everyone here. Part of my physical therapy was kicking most of their asses. During that time, I think most saw right through me and realized what an internal softy I was, which is new and infuriating.

“Still waiting on that kiss Pretty.”

Lane adds unhelpfully.

“Lane!”

I screech, covering my face with both hands as more laughter sounds.

I hardly stop myself from cowering behind a rock when I feel Creeks eyes burning a hole into the back on my head. I know he’s looking at me, he’s barely taken his eyes off of me. What I don’t know is why? Is he imagining my death? Disgusted that I’m here?

I shake those thoughts away as quick as they came because it doesn’t matter. For so long now his face has been that of my nightmares. I used to fall asleep and watch Cami die nine times out of ten. Now I close my eyes and pray I don’t see Creek standing above me unfeeling after he quite actually killed me.

“You know I’m kidding.”

Lane lies. “Gates ready when you are, I’ve accessed the cameras and dismantled them on their side. When you get to a door, I’ll disarm it.”

He explains to us again.

I’d thank him but I’m moving already. Mind shutting down to everything but the task at hand. When I approach the gate I waste no time hoisting myself up and swinging over it. My boots hit the ground with a thud, and I feel the first stab of pain shoot across my chest. Gritting my teeth, I fight against a wince. If Rex sees me faltering he’ll send me back to the car and I’ll have to kill him.

A rush of adrenaline makes blood rush through my ears, and I hear the steady pump of my heart as we grow closer to the door. The two men standing watch there are easily shot and killed, the silencer on Rex’s gun ensuring no one is the wiser.

Everyone follows behind me in groups. By my side is Rex and a few of his men.

“Open the door.”

I tell Lane in a hushed voice.

When I hear the sound of a lock unlatch I don’t spare another second thinking about what’s to come as my leg pulls up and back and I kick it in. My knifes are out and at the ready before the metal can slam against the wall, then all hell breaks loose, and I smile.
