Page 51 of Unspoken Lies
He always manages to lighten the mood. The mention of babies reminds me of my sisters and how the probability of seeing them is nil. My parents are all about control, which meansthat since they no longer have any over me, my sisters will see the brunt of that decision.
One of them will be pushed to become a lawyer that they can puppeteer, because the legacy must go on. I’d feel bad about it if we had any kind of relationship, but we don’t. This is the nature of our world.
Watching the last of the sun’s rays die in the sky, I grab a full face mask that has a white printed skull on it, and the guys follow suit. Getting out of the vehicle, we hold the masks at our sides where no one else can see.
Walking as if we’re walking home or to visit someone, we chat quietly. Everything is stated in code. I know that I’m going to be picking the lock, Jared will smoke her out with a mini smoke bomb he has in his pocket, and Elijah has the zip ties. Our breaking and entering has a side of kidnapping attached.
Oh well. It’ll be even better if she runs, so Jared will be extra creepy as he talks to her through the door before I open it. I don’t need to be sneaky, I honestly want her to run. It’s been too long since we’ve hunted someone.
We’ve all been on edge and moody as fuck. Jared face fucked me in the shower three days ago because he said he couldn’t handle my attitude anymore, and we are very close to double teaming Elijah.
The only thing stopping us yesterday was the concussion.
The three of us walk up the stairs loudly to the second floor, and Elijah even laughs loudly. If it really is Rachelle up here, she’ll remember his laugh. It’s unhinged and psychotic, which is why he doesn’t do it often.
Smirking, the three of us pull on our masks and I drop to my haunches to begin picking her lock as Jared bangs on the door.
“Rachel, Rachelle, who fucking knows who you are. You hurt your boss, and there are consequences to that,” he roars.
“I guess we’ll finally see if you’re a hallucination or not, sweetness,” Elijah calls out.
The girl inside gasps, and I can hear her whispering to herself.
“It’ll be no fun if you’re rocking back and forth having some kind of fucked up attack,” Jared says callously.
The game is on.
CHAPTER 12
LILIANA
“Iwould say this doesn’t seem like a drug runner’s kind of place, but nothing about this has been normal,” Nacio murmurs as we watch someone place a bag of drugs underneath a park bench in the twilight of the day.
It took forever forel Tigreto respond back to me. And now, we’re going to stalk and extract intel.
“Be careful,” I murmur to him as he slinks away. I get a finger wave in return.
The cocky fucker.
Gazing around the open area for any sign of cops, I shove my hands into my coat pockets and begin to walk. I have kept a low profile in town despite the executions and disappearances of low life drug dealers and rapists.
I shouldn’t be onel Tigre’sradar. The phone I used was a burner, and I took a lot of precautions on the way here. Nacioand I parked several blocks away, had dinner at a cute eatery, then walked here at the agreed upon time.
We look like a couple out enjoying ourselves before heading to a drug pick up. My lips twitch at how insane my life is now as I bend to snag a corner of the rolled up bag before continuing to move out of view. Nacio is currently tailing the guy who brought us the drugs, while I’m walking to drop this off with one of my father’s men to test the drugs.
Also, any kind of evidence on the bags or markings will be helpful to trackel Tigre. The man has to fuck up at some point. Now that I’ve made absolutely certain Maurice and his men aren’t dealing after some very intense interrogation, they’re very motivated to see me go.
“Miss Lili,” Maurice’s son murmurs, stepping out from behind an alley. After seeing what I was capable of and understanding who I am, his tune has changed. Maurice gave his son to me as my runner.
I also found out that the reason he was so cagey when I spoke to him the first time is because he was with someone he shouldn’t have been. Santiago is gay, not a spy or a traitor. His father is currently dealing with the realization, which is none of my concern.
Mr. Emil thought Santiago was the one selling the drugs because he’s been sneaking around to meet with his boyfriend and has been lying left and right to his father.
“You know where to get this to,” I say, jerking my head into the alley. “Open this in a well ventilated area, please, then catalog it all.”
“Yes, ma’am,” he murmurs. I think my youth is transcended by how fucking scary I am.
GHB at least won’t burst into a cloud like cocaine because it’s not a powder, which means no one can accidentally get high. Iasked for both gum as well as liquid form. Maybe I’ll get lucky on the composition or even prints on the inside.
