" I thought you let her go and were done with the situation?" I shook my head, rubbing my goatee.
"I thought things were over between us, too, but it didn't turn out that way when I came back to confront her. Neither of us was happy with the distance between us, so we had a long discussion, and all is well."
She smiled while licking her lips and rubbing her hands along the front of her jeans.
"Oh, I see. Well, I guess congratulations are in order?"
I managed a smile for her benefit. I just wanted to get this meeting over with. I was thinking of texting Kit and heading out to her place to help her with some packing.
This is how obsessed I was with her. I didn't want her out of my sight for even two measly hours. I always feel that something terrible is going to happen to her.
You're a sick man, Atlas. You're a sick man.
"Thank you, Yara. I think we're all set here. We can discuss the details again a few days before the assignment. Until then, I will be busy with Kit. I'll be in touch when things settle."
She forced a smile, nodding. I knew she wasn't excited about my new relationship. I know Yara has always had a little crush, but I wouldn't stop living my life because she had the hots for me. The feelings weren’t reciprocated.
"Sounds good, Atlas. I am going to head out. I will talk to you later, and again, congratulations."
She stood up and left without so much as a glance my way.
She was pissed. I was tired of her bullshit and jealousy. I think it's time to change partners to keep the peace. We spend a lot of time together, jumping from mission to mission, and even though she is excellent at her job, it isn't a good idea to keep working together because of her feelings for me.
I am going to talk to Jacob and have him find another chick who can assist with the human trafficking rings. I think it's best to have Yara placed elsewhere. I know Kit isn't too fond of her; the same goes for Yara.
I didn't need the fucking headaches, and I wasn’t looking to get into arguments with Kit over Yara. To keep the peace, I will have her paired up with another agent. I’ll look for a new female partner before my mission in Brazil.
I glanced at the time. It's noon. I guess I can leave Kit alone for another hour. It won't kill me. I decided to take a shower and get ready for the day. I will let her deal with Becca; then, we can head to her place to pack a few more things. I will call a moving company when she returns.
Kitlyn
Jesus, I was running out of time. I have one hour left to get my stuff together. I spoke to Becca about Atlas, telling her everything that happened between us and how we are a couple now. Of course, she didn't understand why I chose to stay with him or how we fell in love.
After forty-five minutes of discussing my feelings for him and how this happened, she finally accepted my decision. She had no other choice. Atlas is the man I want to spend my life with, and although some people will never understand the reasoning behind it, I don't care.
It's nobody's business how I choose to live. I knew Becca would come around, eventually. If she wanted to remain a part of my life, she would have to accept him.
Once I moved all my things into his place, I planned to arrange a meeting between them and make a nice dinner for the three of us to break the ice.
I'm hoping Atlas behaves himself and doesn't give her an attitude. He may dominate me, but I can persuade him to be on his best behavior. After all, he agreed to discuss decisions with me before implementing his rules. A deal is a deal, and he is a man of his word.
"Hey Kit, do you want these pajamas?"
Becca came out of my bedroom holding up a tattered-looking flannel nightgown.
I laughed and shook my head.
"Oh, hell no. I don't think he would appreciate that ratty granny gown. He likes to see me in something sexy or nothing at all." My friend's gaze hardened. She looked a little hesitant but spoke her mind, anyway.
"I hope you know what you're doing, Kit. I mean, the guy kidnapped you. It's just fucked up, that's all. It may take me a little time to digest what's happening, but you know I only have your best interest at heart, and God only knows the company he keeps."
I smiled at her, knowing she was only looking out for me. I didn't take it personally. She loved me, and I loved her too.
I get where she's coming from.
"It's okay, Beck. I know it will take some time to get used to, but I know what I want. I fell in love with him. My captivity wasn't as bad as you may think, so please don't worry about me. I will be fine. I’ve met his family and some friends; they are all nice enough."
Everyone except Yara.
