“I’m not sure what I saw,” she lied but allowed Thorulf to pull her down beside him. Allowed him to keep her securely by his side when his distrusting gaze narrowed on Vicar and Loki. A look he sure as heck had no right to shoot their way. Not after what he'd done...whatever that was.

“You saw precisely what he claims, Jade.” Loki contemplated Thorulf. “That is why Vicar and I were initially heading your way. Because Vicar felt the shift in his brother,” amusement curled his mouth, “before his own keeper caught his attention.” He tapped a finger and thought about it. “Or should I call her a hunter?” He chuckled. “Sort of a mix of the two, really.”

“I am notkeptorhunted.” Vicar scowled. “Ikeep.Ihunt.”

“So you think,” Thorulf said. “Yet even our parents claim you’re being hunted.”

More than willing to shift the conversation away from her and Thorulf, and truly curious, Jade considered the implications. More so, the sister behind them.

“Trinity’s a fixer, but I’d never call her a hunter or keeper.” She shook her head. “That’s just not her personality.” She snorted. “I mean, seriously, she’s one rung down from Maya on the positivity scale, which means neither would even occur to her. Her dragon eats meat already killed, and she’d nevereverlock a guy down if that’s whatkeepermeans. If anything, she’d do the opposite once she’s done with him.”

“Done with him, you say?” Loki murmured, thinking about it. “Once she thinks she’s fixed him,ja?”

“Yes.” Jade shot Vicar an apologetic look. “So while she might think you need fixing, I truly can’t see her ever trying to hunt or keep you.” She shook her head again. “You’re just too different all the way around.”

“Maybe, maybe not.” Loki eyed Vicar before looking at Jade again. “If your sister has decided she needs to fix Vicar, wouldn’t she do whatever it takes to accomplish her goal? Might she, having already gotten a sense of his various personalities, decided his dragon might best be tamed by being hunted and kept?”

Vicar had a few choice words to say about that, but Jade saw Loki’s reasoning. Trinity had, in the past, been rather flexible with her own personality if it accomplished what she’d set out to do. So what’s to say the same wasn’t happening now?

“Not a good idea, those two,” Maya said as she and Dagr rejoined them again. She shot Vicar an apologetic look as well. “Sorry, but what I sensed off you and Trinity’s dragons coming together when Dagr and I were on our quest wasn’t good.” She shook her head. “Like magnets that repel and attract at the same time.”

“Now, as to you two.” Maya’s gaze went to Jade and Thorulf. “You’re definitely meant to be together.” Her gaze landed on Thorulf. “And we have proof.”
