Story: The Wolf and The Witch
"Another hunt Bash? Seriously? You have more important things to be doing." Mason huffed.
I hummed a bit, waving to some children who wished us a good morning as we passed, "nothing is more important than our sworn duty to the gods."
I could feel his need to argue with me.
"Hello Alpha! Two women crooned from a small cafes porch."
I smiled over at them, pretty, young, obviously eager. If only I had the time, "lovely morning isn't it ladies?"
They nodded, the blonde with the pouty lips smiling invitingly at me, "wont you and the beta join us for a cup of tea?"
I thought on it for a second. I have always had a soft spot for pretty little blondes, especially ones already undressing me with their eyes.
And yet I was so close to the city wall I could taste the forest.
Decisions decisions...
Well, I could always stay for tea and bring her home after I returned from hunting, "alright ladies if you in-"
A scream tore through the air, followed by several more as the earth shook beneath us.
I cursed, spinning to Mason, "Mase!"
He nodded, running off the direction of the screams.
"Ladies, I'm unfortunately going to have to take a rain check on our tea."
They nodded, slightly pale as I started after Mason.
~~
"What. The. Fuck." I growled staring at the hole in the twenty foot wall, and then the creature who created it.
It was covered in wolves, both shifted and in human from. Swatting them from its body as they scrambled toward its head to remove its mark.
Only...
"Alpha.." Mason breathed.
"It has no mark. At least not on its forehead." I growled out.
Zombies with no signatures and a Golem with no mark.
The witch just attacked my pack with absolutely no care in the world.
"Shift and cover me." I barked at Mase.
He didn't even hesitate, the massive wolf on my heels as I ran head on into the battle.
The earth boomed again as the golem took a step forward. It was easily taller than the wall, how had no one seen it.
It laughed a bit and shoved a mouthful of earth in its mouth, growing larger.
Thats how.
Another laugh, "this fun! Grug likes wolf people, they don't smash like zombie!"
As if to emphasize his point he threw one of the wolves on his back into the wall.
Still giggling like some overgrown child.
I took the moment to look up at it hoping to see its mark.
And finding it mid laugh.
On the roof of his mouth, "what. The. Fuck?!" I snarled. "Fuck this."
I didn't hesitate I jumped on the monster of mud and stone, joining several other wolves and started to climb.
Putting my fist through its knee, it stumbled, "grug no like that!" It shouted, ripping me away with a massive fist, "bad doggie! Oh!" It smiled, "grug found!"
I glared at it as it brought me up to his face, grinning, "found what exactly?"
"Grug found pretty eyes! Lady wants pretty eyes."
I spared a glance down at Mase who was still climbing in wolf form, but paused hearing that.
"Grug kill pretty eyes."
I leaned my elbows on his fingers, deciding that sheer force wasn't going to work, "come now Grug, it is grug yes?"
"I Grug."
Right. "Well Grug your lady wants me, correct?"
"Lady want pretty eyes. You pretty."
If the situation were not so dire and he was not in wolf form, Mase would have laughed.
He is certainly never going to let me live this one down.
"Yes. Well thank you-"
"I don't see why she think you pretty. You small."
I scowled, "grug, she would be happier seeing me alive."
"No." He stated, "she said dead."
"My corpse wont be fresh if you kill me now."
"But lady want pretty eyes dead." He said obviously confused.
"And I will be, but I won't be pretty when you get to her if you kill me now. Ill be rotten."
"Even eyes?"
"Especially those."
This seemed to distress Grug, "No."
"Yes." I arched a dark brow at him, "Would I lie to you Grug?"
"Uhh."
I shook my head slowly.
"No?"
"Thats right."
"Grug kill pretty eyes...later?"
"Yes Grug."
"Okay."
"Ill even make it easier for you to get home, ill stand on your shoulder."
"Heh." He chuckled, "lady sits on grugs should sometimes to get things from trees."
He placed me on his shoulder.
I nodded a bit, "hey Grug?"
"Yes pretty eyes?"
"Look at me for a second?"
He did.
I slammed my fist through the bottom of his jaw and into the roof of his mouth.
The golems eyes grew wide for a moment before turning to rubble, dropping us all to the ground.
I groaned sitting up as Mase shifted back, "Alpha." He panted, "I hate to say it but I think the witch has a crush on you."
"So she wants to fucking crush me?" I growled out as a paper fluttered into my lap.
I stared at it irritated.
If found destroyed please return to the peak of willow mountain, address 1313 willowmoon way. Follow the fireflies.
I showed it to Mason, bland look on my face, "she included a return if found note in a golem."
Mason shook his head, "alpha. More importantly. No one lives on willow mountain."
I scoffed, shoving the note in my pocket, "one person does. If you can even call her that."
At least thats what the rumors and our intel says.
The witch with no coven, banished from her own kind.
"The banished witch..."
"The one and only. Still think I should seek her sage advice?"
"I don't know Alpha." He sighed, "perhaps she is doing this knowing I want you to see her?"
"Oh?" I asked, tone dripping sarcasm, "was this an invitation to lunch?"
"Either way we now know where she lives. We might be the only ones."
Yeah. Or everyone else who knows is dead, "either way." I shrugged, "I found a new hunt."
Mason groaned flopping back on the ground, "coping, Alpha, you're doing it wrong."
