ME
Where are you going?
My eyes are locked on her as she pulls her device from her back pocket and checks it. I can feel her curiosity before she evenacts on it, and step behind a group of people heading in the same direction as us, just as she looks over her shoulder.
When she can’t find me, she turns her attention back to her phone.
WREN
Leaving town forever.
My stomach twists, and I scowl down at my phone.
What the fuck is she playing at?
I’m instantly uncomfortable with the foreign feelings crawling up my spine, slithering like an unwelcome guest. Why does the idea of never seeing her again make me want to kill everyone within a six-mile radius, and use their spinal cords to tether her and bind her to me?
ME
There's a left turn coming up. Take it.
WREN
I'm busy.
ME
If you don’t take that turn, I’m going to start leaving piles of bodies behind you until there’s no one left in this fucking city but you and me.
WREN
You're unhinged, Dominic.
ME
Take the fucking turn, Wren.
I fall back, putting some more distance between us, since the group I was walking behind is moving faster than she is and is about to pass her.
One of the girls bumps into her, causing Wren to sidestep and turn around.
I stop beneath the streetlight, my face cloaked in shadow beneath my hood. A few groups of people and several individuals keep moving between us, and although she cannot see my face, she’s staring right at me.
A grin tugs at the corner of my mouth as I watch her, her eyes wide and her lips parted as she breathes through what I imagine is her racing heart.
I tilt my head slowly.
She runs.
My heart kicks in my chest as she takes off in the direction I told her to go. Watching her run from me has my cock hardening like a steel fucking rod, and I break into a run after her.
I follow her down the quiet side street, but I’m much faster than she is. I hang back just enough to get the timing perfect, and the second she’s a few steps from the nearest alleyway, I’m on her.
She squeals when I grab her around the waist, lifting her off her feet and spinning us around as I take us both into the shadowed corridor.
My hand slams over her mouth to silence her as I drag us deeper, moving in and out of the labyrinth of alleys.
This section of the city is right on the edge of an old industrial park, with several abandoned buildings and rentals waiting for occupancy. There’s no one around, and no reason for anyone to come through here.
