Lila smiled back at her brother. “I’m fine. Xander explained everything, and I understand the situation well.” Lila then giggled and looked at Lee and Reiya. “Besides, I think if our deity over there was able to control himself over his mate being touched, then I should at least have as much restraint as him.”
Reiya leaned into Lee and smiled. She was happy for Xander. She’d felt like she couldn’t be completely happy until she knew he had someone, too. Once she and Lee were in the clear, all that was left was getting rid of the demons.
She frowned slightly. It had been a little too quiet on that end. She hadn’t heard anything from any of her family in those regards. Did Freja make it there okay? Had Abaas attacked theBlack Ice Pack? What were her father and mother planning to do? She knew they had a plan up their sleeves as well. When didn’t her mother have a plan? At least she felt like her mother and father were coming up with something. They were both thinkers who had experience fighting. Her father did almost killed Abaas the last time they clashed against each other.
Reiya suddenly stiffened.Oh no …She felt her chest tighten and squeeze at the sudden realization.Calm down, Reiya. You don’t know anything. But she was almost certain of it now.Shit …
“Reiya, what’s wrong?” Lee rubbed her arms gently. He felt her body begin to shiver. “Reiya?”
She shook her head as she tried to think. What was it exactly? She had to be sure … she needed to check. She felt immediately flustered, and she raised her hand to her head, trying to think.
Brody. Chelsie. Meet me at the back of the castle. Her voice was urgent as she reached out to them
On our way!The two voices echoed back into her mind.
“Reiya!” Lee finally growled and gripped onto her arm tighter.
She spun and looked at him. “I think I messed up.” She took in a deep breath. “I need to check something.” She took off running out of the old part of the castle.
“Reiya, Wait!” Lee called after her and grabbed onto her arm outside of the castle. “Stop! Talk to me.” He watched a small tear slip down her cheek.
“Gosh, Lee. I wasn’t thinking. I wasn’t paying attention. I’m screwing up.” She was having a hard time breathing now. If only she had her wolf. She would have known.Damn it!
“Calm down and look at me.” Lee laid his hands on her shoulders, and she quickly brushed them away.
“You can’t.” He couldn’t touch her out here. It was too risky. The others ran up to them.
“What’s going on?” Xander asked, when he saw how distressed Reiya was.
“Reiya!” Brody yelled out as he ran down the hill with Chelsie at his side.
Chelsie, I need a ride. Quick!Reiya glanced at Lee before she turned away and ran up to Chelsie. The moment Chelsie turned into her horse, Reiya hopped onto her.Go Chels.
Chapter 70 Scent
Chelsie took off in the direction Reiya told her. Brody had also shifted and was running at Chelsie’s heels. The landscape blurred by in the darkness as they raced away atincredible speed, though no one but Reiya knew what they were racing toward.
Reiya, what’s going on?Brody asked her. He was completely confused. He noticed the dragons flying above them in the sky. It looked like no one knew what was going on.
Chelsie ran into the flower garden and Reiya hopped off of her. Chelsie and Brody shifted back into their human forms, followed by the dragons who landed nearby.
Lee looked furious as he stomped toward Reiya, who had walked to the far end of the garden and knelt down. Her hands were trembling now. He didn’t care who was looking. She was distressed and needed him. He knelt down beside her and wrapped his arms around her. “Baby, what’s wrong?”
“Lee …” She glanced upward as the tears trickled down her face. “It would be a few hours old, but tell me what you smell.”
Lee took a moment and tried to focus on the different scents around him.
“Do you smell anise oil?” Reiya watched as he nodded his head. She closed her eyes shut. “We have a problem.”
“Shit,” Brody growled as he listened to the conversation. “How long ago, Reiya?!”
“A couple hours? I’m sorry, I didn’t know. I wasn’t paying attention.” She began to quietly sob. “I just now put it together. It just suddenly clicked. And if I could smell it, it had to have been close.”
Brody roared loudly. He was the only one who understood this situation. “I’m looking around.”
“Brody, don’t.” Reiya jumped up and grabbed his arm.
“What in the world is going on?! I want answers now,” Lee growled. They were panicking and he had no idea why.
