"It’s getting dark..."

Next to Sparrow Bee, the only surviving deputy looked at the sky, his voice hoarse, "It looks like they won’t be coming."

Ever since the deputy learned that someone had gone to the Northern Temple, he had maintained a tense expression.

Now, as night was about to fall, he finally let out a sigh of relief.

It seemed that earlier, in front of the Southeast Temple, King Chu Jiang had shown his divine might, killing two dukes in one go and driving back the Imperial Army, dealing a great shock to the enemy.

Siao Ping was never a general with great mettle, so it was normal that he did not dare to initiate an attack...

"I don’t think so..." Sparrow Bee, looking at the quickly darkening sky, became even more vigilant.

"Anyone who knows military affairs understands that the best time to attack a city is at dawn, when the sky is about to brighten. Guards who have held on through the night are at their most vulnerable when it’s almost time to change shifts.

As long as complete darkness has not fallen, we cannot say that they won’t come. .."

Upon hearing this, the deputy’s heart tightened. If that were true, then it would indeed be troublesome.

"You don’t need to worry..." Sparrow Bee said indifferently to the only survivor, "Your Lord King Chu Jiang has already made all the preparations!"

No sooner had he finished speaking than a bright light shot up into the sky, clearly some kind of attention-grabbing signal firework, visible even in the daytime.

At this moment, even the most obtuse person could realize that the people from the Imperial Palace Daoist academy were truly about to take the offensive.

Sparrow Bee’s expression did not change; he was wary of this development, but he was not panicked when it really happened.

After so many years, he had been through countless death fights and had long become accustomed to facing the worst scenarios.

What’s more, this time he had made thorough preparations—what was there to be alarmed about?

With an icy smile, a burst of Spiritual Power erupted from him, and the entire temple suddenly lit up with bursts of blue light, then shattered like glass into countless pieces!

The soldiers who rushed in were scattered into the strange void with these fragments, vanished without a trace!

Seeing this, the deputy immediately breathed a huge sigh of relief; he had not expected the lord to have turned the Ghost Temple into a space of mirrors... If that was the case, their side would no longer be at a disadvantage in terms of troop numbers.

For their side, those Ancient Demons had only lost their minds, not their combat ability.

On the contrary, with their minds shattered, acting solely on animal instinct, they were even more formidable.

It was only because they would attack each other if placed together that the lord had lured them into this temple and used spells to seal them off.

Once separated, if these Ancient Demons faced the enemy alone, they could be the best soldiers!

Sparrow Bee stood firm in the void, looking extremely weak from excessive use of Spiritual Power, with a pale face and constant cold sweat, but the gravity in his eyes had dissipated much more than before.

"Still too green..."

The enemy hadn’t feinted, and judging by the full-scale attack, they had been too careless at the last moment. Didn’t they realize that we were prepared for their arrival?

As the deputy had thought, separated spaces allowing those mindless Ancient Demons to face the enemy alone made them exceptional soldiers. Devoid of reason and relying purely on instinct, the Ancient Demons moved with terrifying efficiency, making them perfect killing machines!

Were the guards of the Mother and Child Ghost Temples killed by these creatures?

Siao Ping had just entered when he felt that terrifying oppressive force, and in a mere moment of contact, he thought that if he hadn’t been prepared and dodged in time, his face would have probably been smashed to a pulp!

Even so, half of his face was now a bloody mess, with one of his eyeballs nearly destroyed!

No wonder there was no suspense; with monsters like these, soldiers like these, what army in the world could win with equal numbers?

Siao Ping’s struggle to fend off the attacks was visibly strenuous.

As a Second Rank Martial Husband, the Ghost General he was possessed by was said to be of high quality.

Now, honored as a Marquis and serving as the chief guard and priest of the Imperial Palace’s Ghost Temple, he had priority access to the resources of the Yin Land.

Even under such circumstances, he believed that his strength had been increasing at a pace that placed him in the first tier within the Ghost Army; yet, even so, against this opponent, he felt he wouldn’t last more than ten exchanges!

Was this not too exaggerated?

Although the person opposite him had a disfigured face, Siao Ping could recognize him; he was a profligate son of the Wu Family, who led a carefree life and only managed to reach Fifth Rank at the age of thirty.

Relying on his family’s resources, he was nothing but a pure waste, never having seen a battlefield.

Such a decorative but useless person, after being parasitized by the creature spoken of by Wei Gongxing, transformed beyond recognition within just a day.

If such a thing had no side effects, it truly would be invincible under heaven!

Suddenly, he felt extremely fortunate that Wei Family’s young man was on their side. If not for that young man’s vigilance, the annihilation of their entire army would have been without a shred of doubt...

With this thought, he hurriedly did a roll to dodge the fierce attack coming at him.

Once he had put some distance between them, he didn’t hesitate to activate something.

A beam of white light shone from his body, making him and the light appear translucent.

The next instant, he somehow jumped right out of those fragments!

Seeing this, the frenzied Ancient Demon charged forward, intending to leap out after him...

But upon attempting to jump, it was like being blocked by an invisible wall of air. The creature’s bones shattered to pieces upon impact, while the fragments showed no sign of cracking whatsoever.

After being flung away, with a twisted and deformed body, the monster continued its frenzied assault, howling as it crashed against the fragments again and again.

But the fragments didn’t budge an inch, clearly something beyond the creature’s strength to break through.

By now, it had lost all reason, yet confusion remained.

Why could that man break through when it was stronger, yet it could not?

This scene also caused Sparrow Bee, who was controlling the situation from among all the fragments, to pause in surprise.

The quality of the Mother and Child Ghost Temples was not low; after many days of enhancement by Yin Spirits, they had reached the pinnacle of the first version of Buddha Kingdom’s Yin Land—its spatial quality was several times stronger than even the interior of the Dragon Palace.

To think of breaking through the void with brute force, one would need to be at the level of a Ghost General like Mu Ye!

Sparrow Bee’s ability to slice through this area relied on a once divine weapon: a blade made from the establishment set up by a former Ghost Buddha, capable of tearing open the highest realms of the Buddhist Sect’s Buddha Kingdom.

It was with that weapon that she and King Chu Jiang managed to slice open the Ghost Temple, turning it into a trap. Someone of Siao Ping’s level, a Warrior, could not break through the spatial fragments with brute force... unless...

A startling idea came to mind, and Sparrow Bee paused, suddenly realizing something. There might be a way to do it, but if that were the case, then perhaps they were the ones who had been outsmarted today!

No sooner had this thought arisen than she saw countless people within the fragments doing the same as Siao Ping—after evading the Ancient Demon’s attack, their bodies emitted a white glow and then managed to jump out from the fragments...

"It’s Flying Star!" came King Chu Jiang’s grim voice in Sparrow Bee’s mind.

"That guy, Chen Qing....."
