Page 90 of That First Night

“You’re fucking chipper today.” Logan smirks my way.
“And you’re fucking annoying,” I snap back.
I decided to meet Marc and Logan at Moores for our Wednesday drinks for the first time in a few weeks. Admittedly, I haven’t had the desire to go out for drinks. I would rather be home with my face between Peyton’s legs. Tastes way better than whiskey ever will.
“Leave him alone, Logan. He’s getting pussy regularly now.” Marc laughs.
“No shit.” Logan smirks. “That a boy. Let me guess, hot nanny?”
“Call her a hot nanny one more time,” I snap my gaze to him as I give him a warning glare.
“Ohh, sensitive subject.” He throws his hands up defensively. “So, there’s more there than her being just a nanny, I presume?”
“I, uhh…” I stutter as I swipe my hands down my face. I have to tell them about her. How I feel and how she’s now going to come to this event with me as more than just a nanny. “She’s coming to the charity event with me,” I pause. “As my date.”
Marc’s eyes go wide, but then quickly morph into a smile.
“Bout time,” Marc says over the brim of his glass.
“Yea,” I reply, doing the same with my glass of whiskey.
“So, this is a thing with her?” Logan laughs.
“I don’t know what we are,” I admit. “But if this is going to be athing, then I am going to need to fire her.”
“Fuck,” Marc sighs from his seat.
“But…” I pause. My eyes darting between the two of them. “I have a plan.”
“Can’t wait to hear this,” Logan scoffs.
“You know that vacant building on the corner of 67th and Columbus? That has been empty for a hot minute?”
“Yeah,” Marc says. “The one we can’t sell for shit. I don’t understand why. It’s a great location.”
“Yeah, agreed. Well.” I clear my throat. “I’m buying it.”
“What the fuck are you going to do with that hole in the wall?” Logan asks.
“I’m going to turn it into a daycare center for Peyton to run.”
“Oh.” Marc's eyes widen. “Wow. That’s uh…”
“She’s going to need a job,” I cut off his thoughts. “I’m probably going to have to fire her. She can’t be James’ nanny when I’m in a relationship with her. I can’t pay her to live with me if I’m in love with her. I have to at least offer a backup plan for—”
Their stares cut off my train of thought. Marc’s eyes are wide, and I hear Logan choke on his whiskey.
“Wipe those fucking looks off your faces.”
“You, uh…” Marc fumbles over his words. “You love her?”
That makes sense as to why they have the look of shock on their face. You would think I just told two young children that Santa isn’t real. I mean he is. Everyone knows that. Wink wink.
“Never thought I would see the day, Tommy boy.” Logan smiles ear to ear. “Tommy finally found the one.”
“I think I did.”
