Page 51 of That First Night
“No, she was your meal on the kitchen counter a couple weeks ago when you got home from work,” Logan scoffs.
The memories of how sweet she tasted rush through my body and my dick wants to salute to that flavor.Down boy. Now is not the time. I can’t help but tip the corner of my lip up to the thought of that and I am pretty sure the two of them caught on to it.
“I was her meal at the office the next day.” I shrug my shoulders.
“SHUT THE FUCK UP!” Logan snaps. “When were you going to tell us about this?”
“I wasn’t.”
“Are we ever going to get to meet thisnanny?” Marc asks, using his fingers as air quotes when he says the word nanny.
“She will be home sometime today. It’s Sunday and she usually comes home in the afternoon.”
“She comeshome.” Marc mocks me, emphasizing the last word.
I’m becoming too attached to Peyton. I can’t help the words that come out of my mouth sometimes. I should have worded that differently but things with her are just different. She makes life easy. Is this how relationships are? I wouldn’t know.
The thought of her making this a permanent home creeps up and I feel a little overwhelmed over it. We’ve only had a few intimate moments and she hasn’t tried to pursue me since then. I don’t even know if she has feelings for me, honestly. I’m not sure if a relationship is something she would even want to pursue with me. But I’ll be damned if I let her go before I find out for sure.
“I think I’m going to invite her to the shore house for my birthday weekend,” I tell them but pause before continuing. I scan each of their faces to see what they might be thinking. Marc’s lips part as if he’s in shock and Logan gives me a shit eating grin.Mother fucker. “To help with James of course,” I add.
“Right,” Logan draws out. “It’s definitely to help with James. There won’t be enough people there to help him onyourbirthday weekend.” He’s so sarcastic, I could punch him in the face.
“I’m going to tell her she can invite Kali and Avery too. That way, when she’s not helping with James, she can hang out with them and have something to do.”
“I like the idea of that.” Logan wiggles a brow.
“I’m telling you for the last time,” I snap, raising my voice louder than I should. “You are not fucking my nanny’s friends.”
“Who’s not fucking us?”
I can feel my face turn white as the three of us turn our attention to the entrance of the kitchen. Standing there are all three ladies. Peyton has a shy smile on her face while Avery wears a huge smile, and her hands are propped on her hips.
“I-I—” I start to mutter but can’t find the words.
“Tommy boy,” Avery says with a shit eating grin. “I don’t think you should be deciding who I get to fuck.”
My eyes move from Avery to Peyton, and I watch her cheeks flush with embarrassment. She covers her eyes with her hand and is shaking her head at her friends' antics. Avery is a ticking bomb ready to explode.
“What the fuck?” Logan asks her in a cop like tone.
“I’m Avery,” she extends a handout to Logan. “I’m the friend who apparently, no one is fucking. Which is such a shame because that’s my favorite sport.” She laughs and throws in a wink for good measure.
“Avery—” Peyton growls at her and moves her gaze to me. “I’m sorry about her. We went to brunch. You know, mimosas and Avery are a lethal combination.”
“Best combination,” Avery giggles.
“I’m sorry, guys,” Kali cuts in. “We just stopped by to drop off some of her bags from shopping this morning.” She points her thumb to where Peyton stands.
“Don’t be sorry.” Logan waves a hand. “We’re about to watch some football if you ladies would like to join us.”
“Logan—” I scowl at him. Peyton has already been driving me crazy enough as it is. I don’t need her driving me crazy in front of these two nitwits.
“Oh, where are my manners?” He extends a hand to Peyton with a smug look on his face. “I’m Logan. Nice to officially meet you. I’m this guy's best friend.”
“Nice to meet you too.” She accepts his hand to return the shake. “I’m Peyton.”
“What are you doing here?” Marc interrupts the introductions. I turn in his direction, and I take note of the scowl on his face. What the fuck?
